Hello

I got a call from a guy with a really heavy Indian accent claiming to be working with Microsoft.

He told me that my computer had multiple problems.

He then told me to hit the Window icon on my keyboard and R (Which is to activate Run)

After that, he told me to type in "www.ammyy.com" and hit enter.

Right when he said that, I got suspicious.

I checked their website and it seemed legit.

I decided to google "AMMYY" and I saw "AMMYY scam"

I checked lots of posts having the EXACT same thing

-Indian guy

-AMMYY

-Computer problems

-Work for microsoft.

I hanged up and shut down my computer just in case. (I"m paranoid)

I turned back my computer on and the guy called me again.

He asked me why did I hanged up and I told him it was an accident.

He asked if I downloaded AMMYY yet.

I told him this "I ain't getting my computer hacked today, buddy." and hanged up again.

I ran a full computer scan with Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security.

(Which I trust since it went with my computer)

So my question.

Who are these guys?

How many people work with them?

Why aren't they sued yet?

Is my computer safe?

You're fine. They cold called you and have no access to your PC since you didn't install anything or allow them to connect to your PC.

Avoid scams that use the Microsoft name fraudulently - Microsoft does not make unsolicited

    How's this for a suggestion: When Microsoft updates Windows, they send a message letting users know about their policy to NOT initiate calls and providing a link to a Microsoft controlled scam website for more information.

    I am probably a naive nuthead honestly because I did allow them to access my computer. But I asked them a few questions and when they all did not add up, i deleted the .exe document I installed and changed my passwords.

    They kept phoning afterwards and i threatened to have their number traced and sue them. The indian guy that spoke to me kept on claiming that he was in love with me. I am 18, and should be "old" enough but I have never heard of any cases like these. Even from the stuff I did learn.

    He threatened to block my PC. 

    I am scared because most of my college work is on my PC.

    My question is, am I SAFE??

    I wish there was more awareness about these type of scams.

    Back 2 years later to answer questions.

    In your case, you are most likely NOT SAFE! They had control over your computer and ran the .exe they gave you. Changing your passwords would not do anything since the .exe might have installed a keylogger into your computer. I'd suggest running a computer scan for viruses and keyloggers, I personally use Avast anti-virus to block out incoming threats and MalwareBytes to check for anything already on my computer. If that didn't enough to remove whatever was installed on your computer, the worst case scenario is that you'll have to do a clean wipe of your computer.
