Hello

I got a call from a guy with a really heavy Indian accent claiming to be working with Microsoft.

He told me that my computer had multiple problems.

He then told me to hit the Window icon on my keyboard and R (Which is to activate Run)

After that, he told me to type in "www.ammyy.com" and hit enter.

Right when he said that, I got suspicious.

I checked their website and it seemed legit.

I decided to google "AMMYY" and I saw "AMMYY scam"

I checked lots of posts having the EXACT same thing

-Indian guy

-AMMYY

-Computer problems

-Work for microsoft.

I hanged up and shut down my computer just in case. (I"m paranoid)

I turned back my computer on and the guy called me again.

He asked me why did I hanged up and I told him it was an accident.

He asked if I downloaded AMMYY yet.

I told him this "I ain't getting my computer hacked today, buddy." and hanged up again.

I ran a full computer scan with Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security.

(Which I trust since it went with my computer)

So my question.

Who are these guys?

How many people work with them?

Why aren't they sued yet?

Is my computer safe?

You're fine. They cold called you and have no access to your PC since you didn't install anything or allow them to connect to your PC.

Avoid scams that use the Microsoft name fraudulently - Microsoft does not make unsolicited

    I wish I had seen this earlier before today. Someone called me today just like the others in their post. So I want as far as allowing him access to my computer. He showed me problems with my computer and tried to get me to buy the warranty. He did seem to get upset when I told him I had to go to work and he would tell me can you hold on a couple of minutes. I think I told him like five times I was running late for work and all he could say was give me a few minutes. He even went as far a trying to get me to fill out a short form for my card. So since I let him into my computer what do I need to do to clean it up.

    I just got off the phone with these scammers. I had a long conversation with the guy. I did the whole find the CLSID number thing on several computers and of course they are all the same. Even said I had several "friends" around the country who have the same number. He didn't believe me and said everyone was lying. I asked if he knew he was working for a company that was scamming people and if he was ok with it, he said they only scam the stupid people. I went on with what if someone from your company called your mother, sister or an aunt. Then I asked if he went home at night to his wife, or probably just his video games and thought about the people he hurt through his "job". I told him that if he is a man then he should be honorable and protect the weak. There was no profanity used, just talking. Hopefully he will think about everything. That was the most fun I've had on the phone at 8 in the morning.

    All I did was to choose the option to repair the computer and did a system restore to a point before they connected. Depending on what kind of computer you have and what version of windows you are running will determine how to get to the restore function.. F8 at boot gave me the repair option..some computers use ESC or F11 or F12. F8 will get you to a safe mode option and you can try from there..it appears that they are installing a third party program to lock it not a system or bios password lock.
