Hello
I got a call from a guy with a really heavy Indian accent claiming to be working with Microsoft.
He told me that my computer had multiple problems.
He then told me to hit the Window icon on my keyboard and R (Which is to activate Run)
After that, he told me to type in "www.ammyy.com" and hit enter.
Right when he said that, I got suspicious.
I checked their website and it seemed legit.
I decided to google "AMMYY" and I saw "AMMYY scam"
I checked lots of posts having the EXACT same thing
-Indian guy
-AMMYY
-Computer problems
-Work for microsoft.
I hanged up and shut down my computer just in case. (I"m paranoid)
I turned back my computer on and the guy called me again.
He asked me why did I hanged up and I told him it was an accident.
He asked if I downloaded AMMYY yet.
I told him this "I ain't getting my computer hacked today, buddy." and hanged up again.
I ran a full computer scan with Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security.
(Which I trust since it went with my computer)
So my question.
Who are these guys?
How many people work with them?
Why aren't they sued yet?
Is my computer safe?

You're fine. They cold called you and have no access to your PC since you didn't install anything or allow them to connect to your PC.
Avoid scams that use the Microsoft name fraudulently - Microsoft does not make unsolicited
phone calls to help you fix your computer

2014-03-20T22:04:28+00:00 Unless they've gotten access to your computer in the past via some subterfuge, there is no way anyone can know what you're running other than possible feedback from some software you may have installed.
This is the same as me getting spam email from Citi Bank telling me blah blah about my account and I should open a zip file to read it... well, I dont' have a Citi Bank account... so I don't open it...
But... when the same email comes through from the bank I DO business with, it gives me pause.
It's like a mind-reader doing a cold read on someone... it's a scam... they throw the loop out often enough every now and then they'll snare someone.

2014-03-20T19:34:33+00:00 Yes they can. They called me today and told me they were calling from Iolo Mechanic, which is a paid for service I have running on my computer. Was it just a lucky guess on their part? I think not. They are able to get information and that is how they get our attention. What saved me was he took me to a file to show me the dangerous programs that were installed to get my info. Luckily I recognized them as normal programs, i.e. Bonjour ect. This raised my suspicion and he never got any further!!
