Hello Maheeb,

Welcome to Microsoft community where you will get best solutions for Windows related issues.

I understand that you have hard time opening Microsoft Store in Windows 8. I would definitely help you in fixing this issue.

Let us start with couple of questions:

1.       Which account are you using to login, Microsoft or Local account?

2.       Do you have proxy server enabled on Windows 8?

3.       Is the issue specific with Windows Store or with other applications as well?

Perform the following troubleshooting methods to fix the Store issues:

Method 1:

I would suggest you to run Windows 8 App troubleshooter to diagnose and fix the issue.

You can download the app troubleshooter form this link “Windows 8 App Troubleshooter”.

Method 2:

If you are using Microsoft account, then I would suggest you to switch to Local account and then check how the apps work.

Follow these steps to switch from Microsoft to Local account.

a.       Press “Windows key +W”.

b.      Type “users” without quotes in the search box.

c.       Then select “Users” from the left panel.

d.      You will get an option “Switch to a Local account” right below your user account name.

e.      Select “Switch to a local account” option.

f.        Enter the required details.

g.       Then login to the local account then check how the apps work.

If you are using Local account, then I would suggest you to switch to Microsoft account and then check how the apps work.

Follow these steps to switch from Local account to Microsoft account:

a.       Press “Windows key +W”.

b.      Type “users” without quotes in the search box.

c.       Then select “Users” from the left panel.

d.      Select “Switch to Microsoft account” right below your user account name.

e.      Enter the required details.

f.        Restart the computer and then try to login using new Microsoft account.

Method 3:

If that doesn’t work, then I would suggest you to create a new user account and then check how the apps work with new user account.

Follow these steps:

a.       Press “Windows Key + W”.

b.      Type Users in the search box and select “Users” option from the left panel.

c.       Select “Add Users” under “Other users” option.

d.      Add the user profile details.

e.      Then login to the new user account and then check if this fixes the issue.

I hope this helps you to fix the Store issue. If the issue persists or you have any other issues with Windows, please do post it in Microsoft Community. We would be happy to help you.

My computer hasn't been able to update for well over a year now.  I cannot connect to the store.  When I try to open the store it says "your are not connected to the Internet".  I know I am connected because i'm typing right now over the net on the effected computer.  I tried the above steps and that did not correct my issue.  Suggestions?

    Hi,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community forum.

As per the issue description, I understand that you get error code 0x80073cfb while trying to use Windows Store.

This issue may occur if the Windows Store is not updating properly or due to any corrupted app files. Resetting Windows Store cache may help.

Before trying any troubleshooting steps, let's reset Windows store cache and check if that helps.

You may follow the steps below to reset Windows Store cache:

    1. Press Windows key + R to open run window.
    2. Type wsreset.exe.
    3. Press OK.

Check if you're able to use Windows Store now. If the issue persists, let's try the steps below and check if that helps.

Step 1: Rename the Software Distribution folder to reset Windows Update Components.

Follow the steps below to do so:

    1. Press Windows key + X on the desktop screen of the computer.
    2. Select Command Prompt (Admin).
    3. Type "net stop wuauserv" and press Enter.
    4. Type "rename c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old" and press Enter.
    5. Type "net start wuauserv" and press enter.

Now try to download apps from Windows Store and check if that works.

Step 2: Check for Updates and install

You may also check for updates and install all the available updates including the optional driver and firmware updates.
