Installed this today, it caused my Poppeeper to be flagged with a -1000 error. Rolled computer back and problem cured. Have hidden update until i know what to do.

YMMV but...

...Microsoft is aware of an issue some customers are experiencing when installing KB2670838 on certain laptop systems with hybrid graphics. We are looking into the situation and are considering blocking the update for systems that could be affected. Customers who are experiencing issues on systems that already have installed the update should consider uninstalling KB2670838.

In the near future (one assumes), Microsoft should begin offering home users (only!) no-charge support for IE10 install and uninstall issues. You also may be eligible for the support if an IE10-related issue causes your computer to crash or if IE10 does
 not let you browse all sites. For now, however, you're on your own so you're best bet is to hide IE10 (*and KB2670838 IMHO*) & stick with IE9 for the time being.

I know how to fix this. click the windows button, click control panel, go to programs, click "uninstall a program" Wait.

Then find "view install updates" (hint: upper left) Scroll down until you see: "KB2670838" Right click it. Hit uninstall.

Sha-Bam! No more evil update!

for a second there, you got my hopes up...

unfortunately, that's a rather worthless post that just says to uninstall this hotfix, then disable windows updates.

So here we are, one year later and as far as I can tell, no fixes. I've been trying to resolve my own Aero issues. Like others, I attempted to remove kb2670838, but the process hung while "finishing" the configuration phase or whatnot. I found one of many guides for resolving the issue. After deleting the contents of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and a few other things, I was able to re-install IE9.

So has anyone installed IE11 and confirmed if this hotfix gets slipstreamed into the process?

I may try it myself... I think I the hotfix was never completely removed from my system and Aero still doesn't work correctly. I was able to stop/start uxsms once and had all my windows rendered with the correct transparency effect... but my desktop and its icons disappeared too. As soon as I flipped between aero themes, DWM crashed again with the same old "The Desktop Window Manager has encountered a fatal error (0x88980406)" error in my event logs.
