Installed this today, it caused my Poppeeper to be flagged with a -1000 error. Rolled computer back and problem cured. Have hidden update until i know what to do.

YMMV but...

...Microsoft is aware of an issue some customers are experiencing when installing KB2670838 on certain laptop systems with hybrid graphics. We are looking into the situation and are considering blocking the update for systems that could be affected. Customers who are experiencing issues on systems that already have installed the update should consider uninstalling KB2670838.

In the near future (one assumes), Microsoft should begin offering home users (only!) no-charge support for IE10 install and uninstall issues. You also may be eligible for the support if an IE10-related issue causes your computer to crash or if IE10 does
 not let you browse all sites. For now, however, you're on your own so you're best bet is to hide IE10 (*and KB2670838 IMHO*) & stick with IE9 for the time being.

    WU does install KB2670838 anyway even if you had it unchecked, if you're installing IE10

    Kinda/sorta...

    KB2670838 is a Prerequisite Update for IE10. If it's not already installed & you choose to install IE10, it's installed as part of the IE10, er..., installation process.

    Ditto for KB2454826 when IE9 for Win7 was released a few years ago...and KB937287 when IE8 for Vista was released a few years before that!

    Same thing for me. 

    Absolutely positively had KB2670838 unchecked !

    Only had IE10 selected to install, period. 

    Guess what, KB2670838 still installs, you can see it as it shows up in the installed updates list.

    Conclusion: WU does install KB2670838 anyway even if you had it unchecked, if you're installing IE10

    Last night, I was offered the IE10 update. It was not checked and I decided to do updates and the KB2670838 was not offered. After updates, I installed IE10 with hope that it would work.

    Live Mail was screwed up again with the left side of the window being black in color, so I looked for KB2670838 and found it installed. This is the second time that it has reinstalled and I am sure I did not make a mistake and install it this time. I uninstalled and Live Mail started working again.

    IE10 still hangs like IE9 did but not as much and will not open new links after the third one in a row from same tab.

    Back to Fire fox.

    I had two updates in the latest batch not prechecked. One was IE10 but I am not absolutely certain which was the  other.
