Click Start (Press “Windows Key + Q” to open Charms Bar.)

Type: cmd

Right click on cmd in start menu and select 'Run as Administrator'

Type: net stop wuauserv

Hit Enter

Type: ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old

Hit Enter

Type: net start wuauserv

Hit Enter

Type: exit

Hit Enter

Attempt to download updates

    Our Windows 10 system has not been able to update for a year now. We keep the Windows defender updated manually. Not feeling a lot of good about MS and this problem.  They should provide a fix tool that checks for various states and repairs the system areas that are blocking updates.

    As soon I enter "net stop wuauserv" I got this message "system error 5 has occurred access is denied".
