Poor font rendering in Windows 8 (blurry text)

Apparently there is a huge problem with **** font rendering in Windows 8. Text appears very blurry. Programs affected by the new rendering are: Internet Explorer 10, the modern interface (start screen), Office 2013 and other 3rd party applications that rely on this rendering technology. There is no way to fix this problem, unless Microsoft recognizes it.

    Encountered this when setting up a new Windows 8 machine for a non-profit.  Could not get clear text in IE10 after adjusting gamma (color calibration) and using the cleartype tuner.

    Once I understood the reason, I defected (for the first time ever) to Chrome browser and made sure we purchased Office 2010, rather than Office 2013.  They're getting essentially a Win7 experience with Win8 + Start8 + Chrome browser + Office 2010.

    Win8 was already a hard sell for the business enterprise.  This makes it worse by downgrading the experience in IE10 and Office 2013 for typical laptop/desktop users.

    Yup, IE 10 is my biggest problem. Take a look at IE vs. Chrome.

    Yes.   Worse in IE10 by design.   Here's proof:

    I don't have IE10 RTM for W7 yet.  Is it unchanged?

     

    BTW I still think that it is actually worst in IE10 on W8, which would imply there is more of a difference made by the OS than by the browser.

    Agree that IE10 on Windows 7 looks a whole lot better than it does on Windows 8.
