Can't create recovery drive on this PC

Most new machines come with a recovery partition allowing you to go back to the time of purchase, you will have to check your user guides (or the manufacturer's Web Site) for instructions.  Choosing that path requires you to save all valuable data first.  Unfortunately upgrading to Windows 8.1 may lose such Recovery Partition.

These options are built-in to Windows 8 also.

Try contacting your OEM for the Windows 8 Recovery Media.  For a small charge they should be able to supply you with a copy on DVD or USB.  This will allow you to reinstall Windows 8 to factory settings as of day one and also replace a recovery partition.

The above would be the same procedure as if you had corrupted, lost, or replaced, a faulty hard drive, which often happens.

Yes Sandeep Ghatuary, those are the steps one takes to create a recovery drive. It would appear that Carlos took those steps and received this message, "We can't create a recovery drive on this PC. Some required files are missing. To troubleshoot problems when your PC can't start, use your Windows installation disc or media."

I also took the steps you enumerated and also received the "missing files" statement. The question remains: What are the files that are missing and how does one get those files?

Use this because you have modified your partitions most likely

open cmd with admin

Under path "C:\windows\system32>"

write command

1-  reagentc /disable

result "REAGENTC.EXE: Windows RE is already disabled."

2- reagentc /setreimage /path \?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk0\partition1\Recovery\WindowsRE

please note

harddisk0 means first hdd

partition is location of the System OS

if you know what is the number of your partition SYSTEM so replaced with partition?

otherwise start with partition1 partition2 partition3 until you get it done with result operation successful.

Here we are 3 1/2 years later and I'm having the same problem as the original post.

I'm running a Dell Computer with an I7 processor and Windows 8.1 with all updates.

I agree the response from Sandeep on Nov. 11, 2012 is of no help.

We need to know:

• What possible files are missing?
• How is the problem fixed?
