what is runtime broker, and why does it use so much memory?

My guilty application was IOBit Malware Fighter.

I'm running the Windows10 Tech preview with AVG antivirus and iobit security software. Thus far runtime broker seems to only use up to 3MB with it normally running around 2MB. Using the Ram clean button on iobit will drop that to 0.1MB but it jumps immediately back to 1MB then gradually climbs back up to 2MB. Note I also have Chrome and Audacity up and running as well. Either  Win10 has improved the leak handling or AVG, iobit and the rest are better written than the other security systems. It does appear however that the routine is performing a useful function for badly written software.

in task manager there is process called Runtime Broker. and it uses over 600 MB of my ram. putting my average usage at 60% on my 4 gig laptop. not noticed any performance issues yet. just a lot memory being used. makes me think of windows vista almost bc it had same issue in past. it would use all system resources.   

It's like-a just Kaspersky Antivirus api-posix-root-malware decrunching your CPU resource out, just-a going as a thief that was looking for money to stole in a police department or even in a cage in there (-:

I recently stumbled upon this thread and thought I might add my findings. I know this is an old forum but it seems the memory leak still exists. Since this problems lies within the relationship of the broker and "apps" themselves I decided to uninstall all of the apps (not desktop applications), the windows store apps that is with the exception of the Xbox SmartGlass App. These are my results

I personally hardly ever use the apps (haven't clicked on one in a week??) and it was still running high. I have 8GB of RAM so the 647MB wasn't a huge concern but it caught my eye. After uninstalling the apps the process actually stopped all together and I had to restart it manually. This may have been a change over the recent updates? After I ran SmartGlass I noticed it rose to about 5MB but within 30 seconds of killing the SmartGlass, the Runtime Broker followed by closing.

**It seams as we have noted in previous post although 3rd Party Applications tend to affect the Process, the sole problem is in the nature of the Apps relationship to the Process and specific functions mentioned by Jeff.

what is this stupid Runtime Broker....

consuming lot of harddisk usage and ram usage...

causing application to stop.....

making my pc much slower.......

unable to open my computer window when it works...........
