Windows 8 PC Reset. Taking toooo long.

Now I understand this will take a long time but I did NOT plan for it to take this long. When I upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 8 the format and upgrade only took 15 minutes. I was having some pc issues and said Hey! How about I use this new reset feature and start over again. WORST MISTAKE EVER! I have no clue what this is doing but this is taking forever. So far this thing moves up 6% every hour. It's been 3 hours now and it's still on 16% Can you all tell me what is this thing doing or is this some sort of error? My hard-drive size is 1TB clean and around 900gb when a OS is installed.

    I got ahold of Microsoft and they advised me to just power the pc down holding the power button and turn it back on. Apparently sometimes there's a problem with the many times it restarts and that the final restart does not start on its own. After a power down and restart it was fixed. Maybe 3 days later though I also learned that my 2 HDDs were bad and on the verge of death. I have upgraded to SSDs and my laptop is back to new.

    gtx 540m

    16g ram

    new 250ssd and 500 hdd

    Same Here. I have a Lenovo R7 series PC. When I got McAfee it didn't work, I couldn't Shred anything! Apparently my computer CAME with a virus! I couldn't delete it, so I just decided to reset it. When I did so it got stuck on 99% and has been stuck there for 6.7 hours or so. I just got it today. It still has 2 terrabytes still free. And has 12 gigs of RAM. Any tips?

    does anyone know how to fix windows 8 restore because whenever I go to start reseting it say restarting and then it takes 2 hours to get through that stage

    A better answer might be to ORDER a set of RECOVERY CD's from the Manufacturer of the PC.

    If your computer is under Warranty, then they should ship it to you for free

    If not, then they might only charge you the cost of the shipping (about $10 via FEDEX or UPS)

    Otherwise, this RECOVERY CD set would be around $25 to $35, roughly, I think.

    Once you get this, take out your hard drive, and plug it into another computer via

    some external cables, like SABRENT cables. ( http://www.sabrent.com/category/hard-drive-enclosures/USB-DSC5/ )

    You should be able to buy these cables at any retail outlet, like FRYS, BestBuy, or perhaps even Walmart.

    You take out the hard drive, and, via these cables, plug your drive into another computer, SO THAT

    you can see your data files. This drive is NOW a data drive, because the computer you have it plugged into, has booted off of its own Operating System. You can't copy programs, because of this REGISTRY thing, but you CAN move your data over.

    After this is done, take your RECOVERY DISK 1, and start the re-installation process. This

    should take about 1 hour. After this is done, reinstall any programs you need, back on your computer.

    THEN, move your data back to this new install.

    FYI: Your ISP would be able to provide you with a FREE anti-virus program, being that you

    are a subscriber to their Internet Service. Call them, and inquire about it. They can probably even

    remote in, and install it for you.

    I am a computer tech for years now, and I have done this numerous times for many customers,

    although, starting with Windows 8.0, 8.1, and 10, are a horse of a different color.

    LOTS of customers of mine, after upgrading to Windows 10, have wanted to go back to 8.0, and 7.

    I PREFER Windows 7. My desktop is WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE... The laptop, that I use in customers

    homes and businesses, is Windows 8.0 (with the start button from www.classicshell.net),

    and I AM NOT ABOUT TO UPGRADE either one of these to a different Operating System.

    Each of them is working great. ALTHOUGH, one day, I had my WINDOWS 8.0 laptop, plugged

    into my flatscreen TV via an HDMI cable, and went to bed, watching COMBAT on YouTube.

    At 4:00am in the morning, I did not see anything on my TV, and when I looked at my laptop,

    it was UPGRADING to WINDOWS 8.1. I was having a fit, cause I heard that 8.1 has lots of problems.

    I called MICROSOFT CUSTOMER SERVICE and asked them WHY my laptop was doing this UPGRADE

    to 8.1, and they told me that during the WINDOWS UPDATE phase, the computer upgrades to 8.1

    ALL BY IT SELF. I told him that I HAVE NEVER EVER wanted to upgrade to 8.1, and his solution was

    to reinstall 8.0 from the RECOVERY PARTITION on the computer. So, I did this, and of course, had

    to reinstall FIREFOX, AVG, ADOBE READER, and various other programs...

    This is the best advice I can offer to anyone, going through this HELL

    Perhaps a call to Microsoft Customer Service might provide SOME type of answers to this retarded behavior, at

    1 (800) 642-7676...

    I doubt it, but it could be worth a try...
