I’ve just started to run Windows 8 for the first time.  Have there been any updates released for Windows 8?

Yes.  An update for Windows 8 has been released that addresses a set of post-launch issues.  You will not be notified that this update is available during the first 24 hours after you run Windows 8 for the first time, however you can manually check for and install this update at any time.

If you are experiencing any problems with your Windows 8 installation, make sure you have installed the latest updates by following these steps:

1.     At the Start screen, type Windows Update.

2.     Tap or click Settings.

3.     Tap or click Install optional updates.

4.     Tap or click the link that says an important update is available.  If you want to install any optional updates that are available, you can click the link notifying you that optional updates are available as well.

Check all of the updates you want to install and then tap or click the Install button.  You will need to reboot your PC after installing the update for the changes to go into effect.

    Unfortunately can't get past the blue screens to get to anything.

    Windows 8 does still has the system backup or restore and create system recovery disk feature.  It's in Control Panel but oddly called "Windows 7 File Recovery"...

    One can also obtain the stand-alone update package through the Microsoft Download Center. For more information, go to the Microsoft Download Center and then search for KB2756872.

    Yes. All and more.  Been on phone with Microsoft for 2.5 hours and chat help for almost 4 hours and no help so far.  Basically they are telling me both computers are hosed will have to rebuild from scratch.  Can't tell you how angry I am again with Microsoft.  If I had any other alternative at all I would avoid like the plague.  Mad at myself too for upgrading both of my computers as both are now going to have to be rebuilt from scratch.  Huge mistake on my part for trusting the software would work.  It has been a hassle since XP with any operating system upgrade.  My Mac's operating system simply always work.  Thought by now Microsofts would too.  Very very diss appointed again.
