On-Screen keyboard icon no longer pops up when touch text box

original title: On-Screen keyboard help.

Hello,

I am a Windows 7 Power user. I recently upgraded my Acer Iconia Tab w500 from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 8 Pro. The product works great however previously in Windows 7 whenever in desktop or anywhere that requires a text input, when I click on the text box, a keyboard icon will popup and this will allow me to click it to launch the on screen keyboard, However after the upgrade to Windows 8 Pro, this icon does not appear anymore and I cannot find the settings anywhere to request it to launch OSK on text box. I can however, manually launch it from the taskbar. Please advise.

* OSK auto launches when in metro mode. (e.g.) swipe in from left and click Search. When the text box appears and I click it, OSK launches automatically.

I am unsure if this is a bug in Windows 8 Pro. However I have verified by doing a clean install on Windows 8 too and it has the same issue.

My tablet has 4 points of input.

I tried what you suggested to cause the keyboard to respond when filling in forms etc. but it doesn't work. I am using Google Chrome, is there a problem there? Thank you.

The Windows OS should be able to identify whether there is a physical keyboard attaching or not. Therefore, if there is no physical KB attached, soft KB should be automatically appeared.

Keep Windows be competitive!

I posted the comment below on a similar thread in eightforums.com, unusual that so far in researching this via forums I haven't seen other users that have had the auto-popup working. So the functionality/behaviour is sitting there in Windows 8.1, just unsure as to how it works. Come on Microsoft, someone there must know what is happening here...........

The onscreen touch keyboard will automatically pop on screen when selecting a field consistently, but to turn this behaviour on and off is something that I cannot figure out what controls it.

I have had the touch keyboard auto-popup in a variety of Windows desktop applications including Word, Outlook, IE and a custom app that my project is building. So it is not a metro only situation/feature.

The tablet that I am currently using did have the touch keyboard automatically popping up for all of the fore mentioned programs (relatively fresh build, locked down corporate network), until I was demonstrating this to other users who's tablet's onscreen keyboard was not popping up automatically. After extensively testing and demonstrating this mine stopped working and I cannot get this behaviour to start happening again. Also to note, one of the users that I was demonstrating this to had this functionality start working on his tablet out of the blue. But we can't isolate a particular action to relate the change to.

There be a setting somewhere that dictates this, or another odd context specific action that turns it on or off....... Or it is simply a bug.........Or Microsoft is watching us and messing with us.

Any ideas?"

I need help the on screen keyboard no longer pops up. iam using windows 7 home premium click on it and no longer pops up. access my password without the onscreen keyboard. please help
