Windows 7 update not working

I have tried all the solutions on the forum but i still have the problem of windows 7 update not working.My computer has been shutdown for 6 weeks as i have been  away. On startup yesterday th probleme  started.

Go into Control Panel >> click on Windows Update item

Click on Change settings (at top left)

under Important updates, click on the down-arrow pull-down

Click on Never check for updates

press OK

Close the Control Panel window

Then Logoff and restart Windows fresh.

When ready, go back into Control Panel >> click on Windows Update item

Click on Change settings (at top left)

under Important updates, click on the down-arrow pull-down

Now make the selection that you need for automatic updates

press OK when done

Close the Control Panel window

Next, do a fresh visit to Windows Update. Kindly advise on results.

If this solves the original issue, kindly click on the MARK It (green) icon.

If this has helped, click on the green Yes  (Helpful) icon as appropos

    Well, thanks a lot for this. After trying all the options found without success, this one made my day.

    My Lenovo T61 running Win 7 Home Premium had the windows update problem. It stopped working after a while with a message saying that the service was not started and that reboot was need. 

    This Intel driver update fianlly solved the issue. Thank you. Alain

    I have had similar problems since end June 2012. Before the Windows 7 update was dowloading the same files each and everytime, so once installed the next ones I set to hidden and it moved on, but again was repeatedly downloading the same updates.

    I followed the information here and still nothing. In fact it will not check for updates without giving an error:

    Windows could not search for new updates

    An error occurred while checking for new updates for your computer.

    Error(s) found: Code 800730B Windows Update encountered an unknown error

    Searching for information on the error code draws a blank.

    I would be interested to know what will repair this problem. It is clear that some updates from Microsoft can cause more problems than they solve, this seems to have all started after I updated Windows (no idea which update was the issue).

    Another related issue is that I can see when the last updates were applied (successful or failed) but cannot see a list of the installed updates! So if the problem was with a particular update(s) there is no way to remove it.

    Before I reply to the steps it seems I must be a technophobe in this regard I am not. So here is what I think you need to evaluate things....

    Acer Aspire 4830T with Windows 7 Home Premium

    Intel Core i5-2410 CPU 2.30 ghz

    64 bit Operating System....

    I use Smart-Bro USB internet connection (this has never caused a problem with updates in the past)

    If you need more than this you will have to tell where I can get the information for you...

    Now yes the Windows update is definitely NOT WORKING for me... meaning that it will not update... I followed the steps above and ended up with a message that states:

    Error(s) found:

    E80072EE2 ... than I get this message:

    Error(s) found:

    E80072F78

    I have gone through this before and ended up with another Error which is different from this one.

    The problem started around me having to reinstall to factory default the files for this pc. Since then I have not been able to do the updates.

    Hope this information is all that is required... thanks...
