Cannot Connect To Windows 8 Store, WWAHost.exe Failing?

Hello All,

For some reason I cannot connect to the Windows 8 store. When I start the app I get the familiar green background but it just hangs waiting.

I checked my log files and it looks like the application WWAHost.exe is failing. I am not exactly sure what this process is for but I searched it and found out that it has something to do with the Windows 8 Store. I also have a log indicating that package winstore_1.0.0.0_neutral_neutral_cw5n1h2txyewy was terminated. I suspect this is also related to the Windows 8 Store.

Any help/suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

Hi John (?),

I haven't put together a batch file or tool for this procedure. That's something that support would do, after we've gathered some evidence as to cause and effect. Could you follow this sequence below, and send the results? Commands to type are in bold.

At the start menu, type cmd.exe. You will see "Command Prompt" in the results list. Right-click on it. A context menu-bar will show up at the bottom of the screen. Click on "Run as administrator". Click "yes" to the User Account Control prompt. Command shell will start.
Let's see your LOCALAPPDATA setting. Type...

Hey Paul, is there a more user friendly way of completing this? I've tried copying your code and subtracting your user folder name for mine but to no avail. I haven't used icacls.exe and can't admit I'm a big cmd user but I did move my user files to my hdd from my ssd using mkdir and since then have had the same issue with windows store. None of the above has worked for me. Cheers

I found that I had a (POSSIBLY) similar problem with my local migrated/moved account, but not newly created accounts. You can try this...

Install Process Explorer from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653

Run Process Explorer and add a filter that looks like: "Path, begins with, C:\Users\Paul\AppData\Local\Packages". Replace "Paul" with your account name/path, etc. :)

Start capturing events in Process Explorer

Try to run the Store App

Stop capturing events in Process Explorer

Examine the events. Notice what WWAHost.exe is trying to open. open result = unknown. Access Denied or something...

I have tried every suggested solution I can find; including these. None of them work. Apps like Store, News and Weather are showing some sort of incoming activity but do nothing when I click on them other than to open a screen which shows the juggling balls.

I notice that when I look at Manage my account it's telling me that I have not given access to any apps or services. I don't know if that's relevant but I cannot find any reference to what it means or how to do it.

Also, I am puzzled about Method 3. As long as there is a date and time what difference does it make? Since Windows 8 forced me to open a Hotmail account in the UK (I am in Australia) I did try changing the time to London but that made difference.

I am really cranky. Microsoft have botched this release. I have spent many hours with this problem. It must be a communications issue and I shouldn't have to spend this amount of time trying to solve it. I have paid for this frustrating product and now cannot even go back to Windows 7.
