This program is holding some virus like qualities. You are not allowed to install a free version only a paid one, when the program sneaks in through something else it'll force you to see an error everytime you turn on your computer.

Nice try Craig. I found a fix and felt it was important to post; http://support.microsoft.com/mats/program\_install\_and\_uninstall click on this link and click run, let it troubleshoot for you but you select the files to delete (something along the lines of that, it was the second option) after that is done it will show you guessed it "StrongVault" or "Strong Hold" click on that and let it uninstall and clean up. Restart your computer you will be good to go.

The link provided does not install anything I checked. It is also through Microsoft. Let me know if this helps!

Last Craig, cut your **** if when your program is searched in google and the first link is to uninstall you seemingly screwed up. First time posting thought I would help. Gabe.

I suddenly found this "strongvault" program on my computer after installing "VLC Media Player".  It has caused havoc.  I now have error messages when I am trying to open important programs for mmy business.  It has also caused a fatal error and has stopped "SOS messaging from working.  Anybody know what I can do about this.  Why don't the people at "Strongvault" or Stronghold, or whoever they are have a large box asking whether you want to install their program before allowing it to just try to commandeer your system??? Some programs now tell me the data cannot be found and has been moved to a different location.  I believe this may have legal ramifications, since the moved information is propriety and confidential... I need immediate help before I contact the legal channels for this mess.  I hope the folks at microsoft can help!

We do not do anything that would cause files from other programs to be moved or deleted. It sounds as though the messages you are seeing are referring to the Strongvault uninstaller not being found, which is part of the Windows installer glitch others have reported in this thread. Use Microsoft's FixIt app first to try and resolve the problem:

<Removed>

If you are still having problems after trying both of these, please contact me directly at craig[at]stronghold.com with as many details as possible on what you are experiencing.

Thanks.

Craig

Hi Penney,

Which version of Windows are you using?

You can do a system restore to before you deleted the program:

For XP

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084

For Vista

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-is-System-Restore

For Windows 7

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/system-restore

Also, if this is the Strong Vault you are talking about, here is instructions on how to remove it:

http://strongvaultfree.com/pages/uninstall

Hope this helps!

    Hi Gabe,

I tried your suggestion and pasted the link.  The program scanned but came up with an error saying there was a problem with the bootstrap.  Since I'm not a pro, I have no idea what that meant.  This sure seems like a virus to me!  Whenever I right click my mouse, this program pops up and says that windows is configuring the program. An error pops up and says there's an error 2178.

    HELP!!!

See the second option in my post near the bottom of page 4 of this thread.

    Craig

    Craig,

Both you and Uday are correct.  I work in IT so I'm very cautious whenever I install software.  Recently Strongvault was installed "behind the scene" or better know as: a fly-by install.

When installing another software, there are options to "un-check mark) specific third party software, which of course I did.  At the end of install, Strongvault demanded a reboot.  OK.  Where did this fly-by come from?  It was not mentioned in any other window during the install of another software, and carpo did not get installed.

The control panel instructions are again, 1/2 correct.  I was able to remove the "carpo" software but, Strongvault does not appear.

Do you have a tool that will remove Strongvault without another download of install?

    Your help is greatly appreciated,

    Suzette

Hi Suzette, look for Start Menu -> All Programs -> Strongvault Online Backup -> Uninstall.
