Original Title: All of a sudden internet backgammon not working

Just your basic Windows 7 Laptop. Everything was working fine. Started playing internet backgammon....won EVERY game yeah! Took a break for an hour or so...came back and now have message telling me there is a problem connecting to the internet game server.  Anybody know what is wrong??  What it specifically says is "A Network error occurred while communicating with the game server." What the heck does that mean?

Hi,

1.     Which browser are you using?

2.     Are you facing same issue with any other games like internet spades?

I would suggest you to follow these methods and check.

Method 1: **** You may check if the issue appears in a clean boot state.

If the issue gets resolved, check which non-Microsoft service is causing the problem; referring to the article and following other steps.

**Note:**After you check the functionality in clean boot configure Windows to use Normal startup using the step 7 suggested in the link mentioned above.

Method 2: Temporarily disable the security software and check if the game works fine.

Method 3: If the above step fails, temporarily disable Windows firewall and check if the game works fine.

    I am quite sure you're as "evolved" as the rest of the human race, but if your only experience with Backgammon is through the MS version of the game you simply don't have any idea how the game should be played.   In its authentic form, BG is anything but a mindless game.  I'm sorry if my "snipe" caused you pain, all I can say is that it was intended for grown-ups, not snowflakes.  Your profession, whatever it is, has zero relevance.

    Thanks Peejay 43, that was helpful.  Although I could have used without the snipe about the game appealing to those with the mental and emotional intelligence of an adolescent!  I am actually a highly evolved human being, mentally, spiritually, emotionally.  I engage in a serious profession of helping people, and at the end of a day I sometimes like to go "brain dead" and just play a mindless game.  That doesn't make any of us who enjoy that game flawed or juvenile.  There's no reason to be so judgmental, PJ.

    I think most of the problem with Windows 7's Backgammon has to do with the fact that the algorithm that drives the game is deeply flawed.  Whoever wins the first game almost inevitably loses the second  -- thanks to the algorithm's need to ensure that everyone gets a "participation award".   A double, almost always leads to a loss by the player making the double (presumably for the same reason).  Quite simply , any similarity between this time-waster and the game of Backgammon is entirely coincidental.  The deterioration of the game and the whimsically non-random behavior of the dice means that most of the those who actually know how to play the game have long since moved on, no-one but novices and the snowflakes who can't abide the prospect of losing.  

    Instead of forfeiting or resigning the game, they simply kill their network connection -- leaving the erroneous impression that it's a network issue, rather than a player issue.  This ensures that both players take a loss thought it's not at all clear that there's any other motive at work than simple spite.

    Microsoft has no real incentive to fix the problem.  It's focus is on Windows 10, not Windows 7.  Like the rest of MS's games, it's aimed at the 13-15 year-old demographic and those with the mental and emotional intelligence of an adolescent.

    "People who upgraded from Windows 7 to 8 or 10 retained the use of the pre1installed Windows 7 games.

    Probably the dumbest thing posted so far.  Learn what you are talking about before you tell other people how dumb their posts are.
