Hello,
When I try to launch Windows Movie Maker, I get “Error code: c945000e Sorry, Movie Maker can't start …” What can I do to fix this?

An update to Movie Maker 2012 was just released today. It lowers the hardware requirements back to DirectX 9, so you might see if you can run it. There are more details in the pinned post. The version number is 16.4.3504.0912. The details are also at the beginning of this (now very long) post.
So if you had DirectX 9 hardware that worked for WLMM 2011, give Movie Maker 2012 a go again.

· Windows Live Movie Maker 2011
· Windows Movie Maker 2012
Here's what's happening:
1)
Movie Maker makes heavy use of video and graphics acceleration capabilities provided by a computer's video card to decode and encode video files and render effects, transitions and text. Sometimes video card drivers (the software that allows Windows and Movie Maker to interact with the video card) have issues that prevent Movie Maker from working correctly.
The following video cards and corresponding driver versions below have been identified as having issues that prevent Movie Maker 2011 and Movie Maker 2012 from working correctly. Movie Maker will not start with the following video cards and driver combinations.
To resolve the issue, install the latest video card driver version.

If the generic video card drivers direct from Intel or NVIDIA listed above cannot be successfully installed on your computer, you may need to download the latest video card driver provided by the computer system manufacturer for your specific computer model. Start your search here:

If you are running on DirectX 9 hardware, please ensure that you have installed the Windows Update for DirectX 9 support available at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2741355, and that you are running the latest version of Windows Movie Maker 2012.
To verify that you have the latest version of Windows Movie Maker 2012, please do the following:
1. In Movie Maker, press Alt + F on your keyboard to open the File menu
2. Select About Movie Maker.
3. Verify that the version number is 16.4.3505.0912.

To anyone reading, returning, or posting to this 11 page thread.
This thread was started in Aug 2012 (at least or approaching 6 months ago)....doubtful MSFT support is monitoring with an intent to continuing to provide additional solutions that have not previously been recommended.
The recommendations presented early in this thread to get Movie Maker to work are the only viable options for Movie Maker 12 on Windows 7 or Windows 8:
- Install the update/patch provided in KB 2741355
- Update to the latest available graphics card/video drivers
Note: Install the KB update prior to updating drivers
If updating with the KB article update in conjunction with updating the graphics hardware with the latest graphics/video drivers does not cause Movie Maker 12 to function then not much else can be done at the current time. Whether or not future upgrades will address the problem is unknown.
While the current state does not provide solutions for everyone others have had success upgrading (per the above - KB + drivers) and restoring Movie Maker 12 functionality on Win7/Win8. For those not having success, no other alternatives are available and may never be available (from MSFT).

Installed on a Lenovo G560 laptop and there isn't an updated video driver(s) available from Lenovo and you can not install the Intel or NVidia drivers.
Anyone, know if Lenovo is working on updating their drivers or if there is a workaround to getting the Intel or NVidia drivers to install?
