I am trying to install a Brother MFC-J430w wireless printer on my 32 bit Dell PC. I've downloaded the driver off the Internet, but I get a prompt saying "Unable to install printer. The print processor does not exist." What should I do?

Can you check the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Print Processors\winprint

At that registry key, in the right window, is "Driver" of the type REG_SZ and is the "Data"  winprint.dll?

Also, check that the winprint.dll exists in the C:\Windows\System32\spool\prtprocs\w32x86 folder.

More info in the following article which is for Windows NT but, in general, should also apply to Windows 7:

Yes, you could try changing localspl.dll to winprint.dll

Create a System Restore point beforehand and restart the computer afterward.

So, this file is apparently corrupt.

I downloaded  the best match that I could find

    Category: Windows 7 64bit

    Description: Windows Print Processor DLL

    File size: 38.5 Kb

    File date: 21.11.2010 07:24

    File version: 6.1.7601.17514 (win7sp1_rtm.101119-1850)

    Internal name: winprint.dll

    Original file name: winprint.dll

Product name: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System

    Product version: 6.1.7601.17514

    Company name: Microsoft Corporation

    Virus scan: No virus

of course I can't be sure this is needed in Windows 8.1, but I tried to give it shot. I also noticed that another copy is present in

    Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-p..oler-localspl_31b………..

Although, I, as administrator, am the owner of the file, and have full access, at least according to the file's properties, access was denied.

Can you go to the following folder:

    C:\Windows\System32\spool\prtprocs\x64

In that folder can you right-click the winprint.dll > Properties > Details

What is the File version and Size?
