Have tried going to slui.exe 4 but brings back the same error screen. I have gone to Services to restart 'software licensing' but get error message 0xc004d10a. Tried changing product key to one at the backside of computer which is different from the one in computer properties which is OEM activated copy- No luck same error 0x8007040426. Other information - windows installer is on manual. changed to automatic - still same. Help!!

PLEASE only do what is requested - otherwise we have no idea what's actually happening!

You didn't run the command set in an Elevated Command Prompt window - but an ordinary User window - this means that I cannot read what's necessary.

Please repeat the exercise, following my instructions!

Your problem appears to be that the Software Licensing Service is not running. and it must, if Vista is not to complain.

Have you been using any form of Registry Cleaner??

First check that the Service is set to start Automatically –

Click on Start,

in the Search box, type

SERVICES.MSC

and hit the Enter key.

Accept the UAC prompt, then look in the listing for the Software Licensing Service –right-click on it and select Properties.

Make sure that it’s set to Automatic, and click Apply

Once that’s properly set, Start the service –how long before it appears to stop again? Is there anything in the Event Viewer to indicate why it stopped? – is there an error message?

Please run the following commands in an Elevated (Admin) Command Prompt Window, and post the results.

net start slsvc

sc qc slsvc

sc queryex slsvc

sc qprivs slsvc

sc qsidtype slsvc

sc sdshow slsvc

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)

  1. To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the CP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
  2. To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
  3. To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Ah - you have an installation of Office Enterprise 2007?

Unless you got that through your employer or college, it's almost certainly counterfeit.

Assuming it is genuine, then you may be able to get a replacement disk - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326246

(you'll probably also be able to get a replacement/copy disk from the institution you got the original from).

Whether the Key will still activate is a whole different ball-game. :( - it depends on whether the limit to  the number of activations has been reached (which it probably has, after this length of time)

I really can only suggest an attempt to repair the installation using an SP2 disk, or even try reinstalling SP2 - but I suspect that both will fail.

    Hi Noel,

This is quite surprising because when open My Computer properties, it shows Vista Service Pack 1. Obviously there is a mismatch. When I tried installing SP2 it had failed. Even then I wonder why the OS is showing up as unactivated along with a message to change the Product Key.

I went through the tutorial for slip streaming SP2 but honestly I couldn't follow the instructions.  I already have a partition D:\ where the Vista SP1 was saved by OEM. I also have a Reinstallation DVD with Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit SP1 supplied by OEM. However going through the numerous comments on the Tutorial most of the people had been unsuccessful. That is what I am scared of.

I had tried a Repair install with the DVD I have but it only allows clean install. All I wanted was to avoid a clean install if at all possible. One of the main reasons being that I have misplaced the disc for MS office and will not be able to reinstall.

Is there any thing at all that can be tried.

No - the file date is the date that the patch it relates to went RTM - the 4/11/2009 date is the date that SP2 went final.

According to all the evidence, your system has SP2 properly installed.

It may be this mis-versioning is what it causing your problem.

I would be VERY reluctant to suggest uninstalling SP2 - I suspect it would fail with dire consequences.

I think the time has come to admit defeat and suggest a repair install with a slipstreamed SP disk - and hope it works.

make sure that you have all data backed up to external media first!

(I can't remember - is there a good reason we haven't gone down this route before?)
