Tom, I don't believe in "misery loves company" but people like you and Another Grandma make this old girl at least feel better that she is not alone in this problem...can you believe this whole thing?  I used to defend Microsoft to the end and believed they were the best but they can't even fix what really seems to me to be a simple fix to someone who is "techie" (not me).  Thanks for more input...maybe someone will take notice!

    Hello there helpjean(2),

I hope you don’t mind if I jump into the fray, but I think I may have something to offer.

     1) My son received an email from a friend, a cute “Another Blond Joke” with 6 pictures (gifs) imbedded into the body of the email. All is good.

     2) My son (XP OE) then forwarded this to my wife. It came in as sent. All is still good.

    1. My wife (XP OE) then forwarded this to me. It came in as sent. All is good once again.

     4) To do a test, I (Win7 WLM) went to forward it to myself and my other email client. I got the dreaded “One or more of the pictures in this message could not be found. …”. I sent it anyway!

    1. I then opened the email in my other email client (Win7 MS Outlook). The text was there and there were 6 “Boxes” where the pictures (gifs) had been. These were now stripped out of the body of the email and shown as attachments at the top of the email. Altering the forwarded email in this way pretty much ruined it. What a disappointment!
    2. Now, just for the heck of it, for another test, I (Win7 WLM) again forwarded the email, intact as I had received it, to myself. Once more I got the dreaded “One or more of the pictures in this message could not be found. …”. I sent it anyway!
    3. This time I opened it from where I had sent it (Win7 WLM). Would you believe it, now the text was there and there were 6 “Boxes” where the pictures (gifs) had been. These were now stripped out of the body of the email and shown as thumbnails at the top of the email. Again, altering the forwarded email in this way pretty much ruined it. Another disappointment!

It is so obvious that WLM is seriously flawed, and has been so for a ridiculously long period of time.

Now, before some moderator again asks the standard questions, to which I am not going to reply, I have a suggestion. Ample submissions have been made concerning this issue. Get yourselves computers using the various operating systems and email clients as have been reported to you. Create your own examples; I am sure you can find the expertise and knowledgeable personnel to do this. All it will take is a willingness and commitment on your part. And please, please, please, find a way to keep your WLM users informed and let them know what to expect. “Keep checking back to this thread” is not good enough.

I am probably not jumping in at the right place...but I agree with helpjean...when one asks a question ms goes the long way around the block to answer it.  This is a growing major problem and microsoft seems intent on losing whatever remnant of customers they have that are/were loyal.  I was helping a friend with this very problem this morning and then turned around and could not send one of my own emails with a picture (it happened to be a picture of Mr. O in an email which makes me wonder, is microsoft now so liberal that they have tried to take away freedom of speech in whatever way they can?  At any rate...now I have the same issue and my build of wlm 2011 is 15.4.3555.0308

So again, I am considering going to another mail carrier and be done with it all...any suggestions for a 63 year old non-IT person to be able to live a somewhat normal life?  I am like helpjean and ready to go nuts over it...

I am so happy to find this site and realize I am not nuts.  I have been trying to figure this out and am totally frustrated.  Like the others above, the pictures cannot be sent  - but sometimes they can be.  I can't figure out the difference and am hoping someone somewhere will.

    Hi Helpjean,

I've had this problem for over a year and received the same wonderful results you have.  Too bad we can't go back to Outlook Express.
