Windows XP Computer Overall Slow, Freezing & Locking Up.

My Mom's Windows XP Computer is overall slow, freezing & locking up mostly all the time. I don't have the money right now to pay for Premium Support through Microsoft to get it fixed. Can anybody please help me get this issue resolved immediately! It's been like this for a while. I just want my mom's computer to run normally like any other computer would. Please! Let me know. I appreciate it. Thanks.

    I have never seen that message when I visit speedtest.net.

    Why is that?  Because I am using Firefox with the Adblock Plus Add-On.  I don't see any pop ups ever.  Think of what I am missing.  I do see what you mean if I use IE or Chrome though.

    Now Adblock Plus used to not work with Chrome, but now I see that it does so if you do not have it, why don't you get it?!  In Chrome, you may need to visit Tools, Extensions, Adblock Plus, Options and update manually.  I guess they need to work on that part...  Then you will not see that message anymore or any more pop up ads (I just tried it).

    To test, visit some WWW page you know has ads (like speedtest.net), disable Adblock Plus, then refresh the page...  Ugh!

    Dang...  Now I have to come up with some enhanced instructions.

    What don't you try speedtest.net?

    That was going to be my first suggestion. However, I really don't like that big banner at the top that seems to INSTRUCT the user:

    I just wanted to keep things as simple as possible. :-)

    Your Internet speed is just fine.

    This will be my my last post.

    Your motherboard supports up to 1 GB of RAM. You can max that out by purchasing and insalling the 512 MB RAM stick I already told you about:

    If that doesn't help you with your streaming/buffering issue, I'm not sure anything will (unless you purchase a new PC). Now that ElderL is here, he might have other ideas. He is quite knowledgeable.

    What don't you try speedtest.net?  It figures out where you "are".

    I find that Comcast, AT&T, Charter and Cox seem to like to use that.

    If you suspect a problem with the PC, run the same test on your iPhone or iPad and compare the results (at least for wireless).  If my PC is not as fast as my iPhone or iPad, I need to figure out why.

    It I use speakeasy, it reports ~1/4 of what speedtest reports and if speedtest tells me I ain't getting what I'm paying for, they are gonna hear from me (free HBO for 6 months!!!).
