My Mom's Windows XP Computer is overall slow, freezing & locking up mostly all the time. I don't have the money right now to pay for Premium Support through Microsoft to get it fixed. Can anybody please help me get this issue resolved immediately! It's been like this for a while. I just want my mom's computer to run normally like any other computer would. Please! Let me know. I appreciate it. Thanks.

About the Disk Defragmenter, Disk Cleanup? Or no? Let me know what I should do. Thanks.

Presumably, Elizabeth23 was referring to these detailed and thorough instructions in Shenan's answer:

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-performance/slow-windows-xp-computer/13ce8516-2095-43f3-8915-a4e9da93faa2

... when she said "please perform each step given in the link."

Granted, there is A LOT to do there! How far have you gotten?

If you would like other ideas, I can offer some, too.

I don't want to be a pain but is there anyway you can sum that up in a paragraph. Like, what steps I need to do? If you can, I appreciate it. Let me know. Thanks.

first ensure that the computer is free from infections:

Download, install, update and do full scan with these free malware detection programs:

    Malwarebytes (MBAM):   http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free

    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS):  http://www.superantispyware.com/

then follow the advice from S. Stanley , clean up your computer, in this post:

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows\_xp-performance/slow-windows-xp-computer/13ce8516-2095-43f3-8915-a4e9da93faa2

third: tell us about your system:

make, model and model number of pc

    current antivirus

    OS and service pack

    is windows search 4 installed
