Custom hotkeys to change input language disappear frequently

I had the same problem in Windows 7, and it persists in Windows 8. This happened in three computers I had, including the current one.

I have configured three input languages, and I assign a hotkey (alt+shift+number) to each of them. However, after some time, the hotkeys are reset; sometimes it's just some of them, other times they all disappear. They often keep working, but there are a few times when I can't switch languages in any other than pressing shift+alt or by clicking.

This issue may also be related - Sometimes I can't change languages from IME to English or any other. For that, I have to switch between input methods in IME (with alt+`), and only after I do that I can use the hotkeys. Again, switching languages with shift+alt works, but the custom hotkeys don't.

Does anyone know the cause of the problems I described? Is there a way to fix it? Are there any plans from Microsoft to fix these bugs?

    Think I'm replying to myself here.   Not sure if anyone is still following this question.   My situation is still that the hotkeys are deleted when the PC goes to sleep but reinstated when I reboot from scratch.   Contacted Microsoft's Questions Desk for advice.   First tip was to delete the hkey in the Registry, which I explained I've done with the result above;  second tip - pay them either $99 or $149 to put the machine in warranty with Microsoft (it's 5 months old and in warranty with Dell - who are no good either) and they'd sort it for me.   Why?   Because it could be a software issue, an incompatibility or driver issue... and of course trying to fix it myself might make the problem worse.   Customer service?   I think not.

    If anyone else is following this, perhaps you could post something soon to let others know whether it's work coming back here.   Cheers

    Thanks for this it works... almost.

    First, in Windows 8.1 there are a number of registry entries for the hotkeys.   You have to go through them all and delete all of the hotkey settings (if you open up the registry as described in the contribution you'll know what I mean - for XP it seems like the settings are made once, in Windows 8 it's for the machine but also for the current user.    In any case, if you understand how to do this in XP you'll find the right bits if you search around).

    BUT I now have the problem that the hotkeys are sometimes still deleted.   I think it has to do with when the machine turns itself off - 'sleep' or whatever it's called.   It forgets to reload the hotkeys when it wakes up again.   Restart the machine by powering off and on, and the hotkeys reappear.   Any ideas how to deal with this?   Cheers, it'll make my day.
