Code 80080005 Error on windows update with windows 7 home premimum

I am trying to update my Windows 7 home premium but i have been unable to do so and every time code 80080005 appears . I want to know how can i resolve this problem.

I am trying to update my Windows 7 home premium but i have been unable to do so and every time code 80080005 appears . I want to know how can i resolve this problem. 

Check your date, time and timezone.

Check for malware:

Download, install, run, update and perform full system scans with the following two applications:

Removing everything they find. Rebooting when needed. (You can uninstall one or both when done.)

Then perform an online scan with the eSet Online Scanner. Remove whatever is found.

Reboot.

Get the System Update Readiness Tool (save it) and right-click on it and "Run as Administrator". Choose the right one for you:

Let it run/fix things.

Reboot.

Try updating.

If it is still failing, attempt this next:

Reset your Windows Update Components with this FixIt:How do I reset Windows Update components?

Reboot.

Try updating.

If it still fails, try this...

  1. Start an elevated command prompt.
  2. Run the following commands hitting enter after each line:

net stop wuauserv cd %systemroot% ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old net start wuauserv 3. Reboot 4. Try updating.

**Important** The following issues occur when you do this:

  • Updates that are currently downloaded but that have not yet been installed have to be downloaded again by using Windows Update or Microsoft Update.
  • When you delete the Software Distribution folder, your download history is removed.
  • If you currently receive updates from Microsoft Update and from Windows Update, you will have to re-select this option from the Windows Update Web site.

**Note** If the issue is resolved and you can successfully download and install updates, you can safely delete the SoftwareDistribution.old directory to recover disk space.

Reboot.

Register the WU components:

  1. Start an elevated command prompt.
  2. Run the following commands hitting enter after each line:

regsvr32 Jscript.dll regsvr32 wuapi.dllregsvr32 wuaueng.dll

Reboot.

Try updating.

If it still fails after that - repeat this part ONCE more...

Reset your Windows Update Components with this FixIt:How do I reset Windows Update components?

Reboot.

Try updating.

    It was not the methodology given that 'killed' your computer (unlikely it is dead, either); more than likely there were other issues with your computer - some of which may have been repaired if the directions were followed in order and for certain would have an easier recovery if basic maintenance (backups) have been followed.

    I have not read the entire thread on the 80080005 error with Windows Update.  Exactly what does that hexadecimal error code signify?  I got that error code on my Windows 7 Professional 32-bit system this evening while trying to get the updates for patch Tuesday, and I did nothing but do a Google search and then click "retry".  The retry worked.  Is there a web site where the various MS hexadecimal return codes are documented?  Thanks.

    I'v had this problem 80080005 error for long time. Also cmd command sfc /scannow didn't work because of this. Anyways doing http://support.microsoft.com/kb/959077 solved this long time problem for me. Windows updates FINALLY working! ty guys
