Windows Live Photo Gallery-error when trying to view pictures on SD card: 0x80010108

I have a brand new Windows 7 computer with Windows Home Premium 64 bit operating system. The computer has a built in card reader. When I insert a 2 GB SD memory card into the card reader I see an autoplay screen with various options. If I select "View Pictures Using Windows Live Photo Gallery", I get the following message: "An error is preventing the photo or video from being displayed. Error Code 0x080010108"  How do I resolve this? 

 By the way, if I select " Import Pictures and Videos Using Windows Live Photo Gallery", everything works fine.

This is the textbook way to import from a card, follow them exactly, oddly it's the way you say it works, lol :-)

  1. Make sure that your digital camera or memory card reader is turned on and connected to your computer, or that the disc is inserted into your computer's CD or DVD drive.
  2. Open Windows Live Photo Gallery by clicking theStart button. In the search box, type Photo Gallery, and then, in the list of results, clickWindows Live Photo Gallery.
  3. Click theHome tab, and then click Import photos.
  4. In theImport Photos and Videos dialog box, click the device that you want to use, and then clickImport. If you're importing from a CD or DVD, select the CD or DVD drive.
  5. ClickImport.
  6. ClickMore options to select the options that you want to use, such as where to save the files and what format to use for the folder and file names.
  7. Select eitherReview, organize and group items to import or Import all new items now.
  8. For all of the late comers to this thread microsoft released the codec pack that fixes this issue it is included at the download center here,

    if iselect view pictures using wind live potho gallery i get error code0x80010108. but import pictures is working good.how to solve that

    Train55 was in the clouds so to speak, and refused to uninstall her/ his perfect software from the (new) perloaded computer,

    So she never would do what m-s techs advised her/ him to do,

    Which is drop or uninstall AVG antivirus and all firewalls third party and private and public windows firewalls and use this fragment uninstaller,

    Your facing a blocking error, in addition you need to log out of live hotmail and any other live services, delete your browser history along with any missed cookies,

    And use this uninstaller,

    After download close the window,

    I have a client with this same issue. Fresh install of Windows 7 Home x64 OEM. Installed the Live Essentials pack, including photo gallery. Whenever the "View photos in Photo Gallery" options is chosen, we get the 80010108 error. I have tried uninstall and reinstall, repair, etc. Any other advise? Train55 if you're still monitoring this thread, what kind of computer? The one I've been trying to get to work is an Asus G50VT-X1  Best Buy edition. The card reader is a built-in Ricoh. Anyone have any input? Thanks

    Train55 thought there was nothing wrong with his/her software that was preloaded and wouldn't take any steps to correct the problemed software issue,

    Refused to uninstall and reinstall, total and complete denial.

    She/he also refused help on a different thread from m-s techs to uninstall.
