Windows Live Photo Gallery-error when trying to view pictures on SD card: 0x80010108

I have a brand new Windows 7 computer with Windows Home Premium 64 bit operating system. The computer has a built in card reader. When I insert a 2 GB SD memory card into the card reader I see an autoplay screen with various options. If I select "View Pictures Using Windows Live Photo Gallery", I get the following message: "An error is preventing the photo or video from being displayed. Error Code 0x080010108"  How do I resolve this? 

 By the way, if I select " Import Pictures and Videos Using Windows Live Photo Gallery", everything works fine.

This is the textbook way to import from a card, follow them exactly, oddly it's the way you say it works, lol :-)

  1. Make sure that your digital camera or memory card reader is turned on and connected to your computer, or that the disc is inserted into your computer's CD or DVD drive.
  2. Open Windows Live Photo Gallery by clicking theStart button. In the search box, type Photo Gallery, and then, in the list of results, clickWindows Live Photo Gallery.
  3. Click theHome tab, and then click Import photos.
  4. In theImport Photos and Videos dialog box, click the device that you want to use, and then clickImport. If you're importing from a CD or DVD, select the CD or DVD drive.
  5. ClickImport.
  6. ClickMore options to select the options that you want to use, such as where to save the files and what format to use for the folder and file names.
  7. Select eitherReview, organize and group items to import or Import all new items now.
  8. For all of the late comers to this thread microsoft released the codec pack that fixes this issue it is included at the download center here,

    Did you ever try the fix program option ?

    Microsoft just released some optional windows updates to try and fix this sort of errors.

    Hi Mary,

    Thank you for the information. I followed the thread and implemented these instructions:

    1. CloseWindows Live Photo Gallery
    2. ClickStart
    3. ClickMy Computer
    4. Paste this address in the Address field**%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Photo Gallery**
    5. Right clickPictures.pd5
    6. ClickRename
    7. Change the file name toOLD_Pictures.pd5
    8. OpenWindows Live Photo Gallery

    Now Windows Live Photo Gallery will rebuild its database, which should stop the error you are receiving from occurring.

    I found a file labeled Pictures.pd6 but not Pictures.pd5 Anyway, I renamed it Old Pictures.pd6 and opened WLPG. I then closed WLPG and inserted my camera's SD Card into my computer's card reader. Auto play started (I have WLPG set as the default program for photos) and I got the same error message "An error is preventing the photo or video from being displayed. Error Code 0x080010108". It doesn't matter if I use a different camera card in the reader so I know it is not the card. Any other ideas as to what I might try to eliminate the error code. FYI, I have a brand new Windows 7 64 bit system and a brand new computer. It is the windows home premium version of software.

    You haven't named the type of camera the card came out of,

    Besides that you already say the wlpg import photos feature work in the program, so what is really the problem, that windows explorer can't do it with the link option in your library, stop using it and open windows live photo gallery and use the feature in the program, you said it works.

    This error is usually a firewall or avg antivirus or norton......blocking the installation,

    You can drop your firewall and select fix program in the uninstall a program process, and see if that works, if not uninstall windows live and drop your firewall and antivirus boot if necessary, redownload,
