Windows Live Photo Gallery-error when trying to view pictures on SD card: 0x80010108

I have a brand new Windows 7 computer with Windows Home Premium 64 bit operating system. The computer has a built in card reader. When I insert a 2 GB SD memory card into the card reader I see an autoplay screen with various options. If I select "View Pictures Using Windows Live Photo Gallery", I get the following message: "An error is preventing the photo or video from being displayed. Error Code 0x080010108"  How do I resolve this? 

 By the way, if I select " Import Pictures and Videos Using Windows Live Photo Gallery", everything works fine.

This is the textbook way to import from a card, follow them exactly, oddly it's the way you say it works, lol :-)

  1. Make sure that your digital camera or memory card reader is turned on and connected to your computer, or that the disc is inserted into your computer's CD or DVD drive.
  2. Open Windows Live Photo Gallery by clicking theStart button. In the search box, type Photo Gallery, and then, in the list of results, clickWindows Live Photo Gallery.
  3. Click theHome tab, and then click Import photos.
  4. In theImport Photos and Videos dialog box, click the device that you want to use, and then clickImport. If you're importing from a CD or DVD, select the CD or DVD drive.
  5. ClickImport.
  6. ClickMore options to select the options that you want to use, such as where to save the files and what format to use for the folder and file names.
  7. Select eitherReview, organize and group items to import or Import all new items now.
  8. For all of the late comers to this thread microsoft released the codec pack that fixes this issue it is included at the download center here,

    We are having the same problem with the same error code 0x80010108 , but it's coming from a cd rom / disk not a card.   The rom works fine for pictures in the libraries section.  It won't pop up on desk top.   Any answers to this.??

    Open your my pictures location, click on organize on the top left side, click on the folder and search options, click the view tab and uncheck the top option, always show icons and never thumbnails, select apply then look for and click the box, show hidden folders, files and drives click on apply and save.

    If the photo thumbnails now show up but look washed out right click them and select properties, on general tab section, uncheck the hidden attribute box, and save. 

     Return to your my pictures location, change the view of the page on the top right side next to the question mark symbol, there is another symbol with a drop down arrow, click it and select medium or large icons from the listed options.

    Then you can contact mcafee and have them adjust the registry for you in their software scanner,

    Massive resetting of the hidden attributes can be done by right clicking the (my pictures) listing on the folder tree, and select properties, general tab section, check the hidden box and click on apply, this will change all of the files to hidden, click yes, then uncheck the hidden box and apply, it will remove the hidden attribute from all of your files, click on yes, then save

    I've got the same problem, but my occurs when I try to rotate a pic and as soon as I close Windows live photo the picture is gone. I've try many things but none worked. HELP!!!!!!
