Windows Live Photo Gallery-error when trying to view pictures on SD card: 0x80010108

I have a brand new Windows 7 computer with Windows Home Premium 64 bit operating system. The computer has a built in card reader. When I insert a 2 GB SD memory card into the card reader I see an autoplay screen with various options. If I select "View Pictures Using Windows Live Photo Gallery", I get the following message: "An error is preventing the photo or video from being displayed. Error Code 0x080010108"  How do I resolve this? 

 By the way, if I select " Import Pictures and Videos Using Windows Live Photo Gallery", everything works fine.

This is the textbook way to import from a card, follow them exactly, oddly it's the way you say it works, lol :-)

  1. Make sure that your digital camera or memory card reader is turned on and connected to your computer, or that the disc is inserted into your computer's CD or DVD drive.
  2. Open Windows Live Photo Gallery by clicking theStart button. In the search box, type Photo Gallery, and then, in the list of results, clickWindows Live Photo Gallery.
  3. Click theHome tab, and then click Import photos.
  4. In theImport Photos and Videos dialog box, click the device that you want to use, and then clickImport. If you're importing from a CD or DVD, select the CD or DVD drive.
  5. ClickImport.
  6. ClickMore options to select the options that you want to use, such as where to save the files and what format to use for the folder and file names.
  7. Select eitherReview, organize and group items to import or Import all new items now.
  8. For all of the late comers to this thread microsoft released the codec pack that fixes this issue it is included at the download center here,

    I found the answer!!!!!!!!!!  I now use HP media play to view my sd cards.

    The work around by using windows explorer or just simply copy and pasting to a new event folder in your library, is the way I've always done things like this so it's nothing new at all, and you have to wonder why people just freak out over using this method ?

    I have read the entire 4 pages of comments and advice from the "expert techs" on how to correct and get rid of error 0x80010108.   From my evaluation of the questions and answers, there isn't a  "fix" for this problem at this time so why bother with all of the downloading, etc.  You will just mess up your computer and cause more problems.  If you inactiveate AVG, you will get a virus for sure.   Why hasn't Microsoft addressed this problem with a fix???? Why doesn't Microsoft take care of this problem.   My problem is identical to the posts above.  Nothing will fix at this time.   Use the work around as obviously the error can't be repaired!!!   You would think Microsoft could do better!!!!!!!!!!!!
