Hi, I have a system with a C:drive (a SSD drive that Windows runs on) a E drive (ordinary hard drive) an external drive used for backups and a CD/DVD drive. The C drive died. My computer supplier (it's less than a year old) told me to extract the drive, I sent it to them, and after a long wait received a replacement. That's now installed and running. I have Windows on it anc can access the files on my other drive. But I cannot get the system image from my external backup to copy back across. I keep getting "The system image restore failed. Error details: The disk that is set as active in Bios is too small to recover the original system disk. Replace the disk with a larger one and retry the restore operation (Ox80042407). But the replacement disk is the same as my original which died. It also wants to reformat my E drive, which is rather worrying, as there was no problem with that. This is after having followed its previous instruction to boot from the Windows Install disk. Desperate for help.

I'm just re-installing Windows in order to download the partition wizard, and it tells me that 100MB is not enough for Windows, it's instlling it into the partition of 107 GB currently called D.
Here's what bootable partition wizard reports for Disk 1 partition/capacity/used/status/type:
System Reserved / 100mb / 65mb / Active / Primary
(blank) / 107gb / 14gb / None / Primary
then it shows disk 2 my external drive
That 100MB looks just as it should, normally the next step would be to restore the C: Windows partition.
Qustions: the 107GB partition is that your Windows partition, what is the 14GB for (restore/recovery partition)?
What is the make and model of your SSD drive. Have you used TRIM, Garbage collection or Flashed the SSD drive with the latest firmware?

The 14gb must be Windows, that's the only thing installed on it at present i.e. 107gb capacity of which 14gb is Windows as installed from the windows installation disk. Is that too big to be just Windows? I don't see what else it can be. The box says the drive is A "Vertex 2 Sata II 2.5" Solid State Drive by OCZ Technology, MLC Flash Memory, TRIM Support, Raid Cabaility". When I received it (in exchange for my original SSD drive which my compuet supplier said had failed) I just fitted it into the machine then installed Windows from the Windows Install disk. I don't know what TRIM or Garbage collection are. There was nothing on the instruction leaflet about Flashing. I did note that the instruction leaflet said to format it after installation, but I assumed that happened automatically when I installed Windows.
It's running Windows fine and I can recover my files, but I'd desperately like to recover the disk image, because there's stuff like my e-mail program (and mailbase) that's a total nightmare in reinstall manually, and settings for things like my FTP program etc. etc. That;s what I thought a system image backup was for.
