Task image is corrupt or has been tampered with 0x80041321

When I try to do a monthly back up it want do it. It gives me Task image is corrupt or has been tampered with 0x80041321. I checked for virures & they come back clean. Can some one please help me out?????????

hi,

i just thought that this solution given by mouneshwar on page 2 of this thread (about three entries down) was too broad based. especially the part where he suggests deleting all the subkeys.

i had a similar issue with my task sched/ corrupted tasks, and the steps you suggested wouldn't have re-created clean tasks to replace the corrupt ones.

BY FAR the most thorough way to solve the issue is using regedit for the tasks, as well as correcting the corrupted tasks in system32 file.

all the steps can be thoroughly described to get the correct solution in the following microsoft support article:

MS10-092, specifically this support page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2305420

although it deals with a problem in the task sched caused by a windows update, the actual problem is exactly the same, with the same corrupt task messages.

this is the correct way to solve the issue, it takes a few steps but it's not difficult. just follow it closely, and only fix the tasks which are an issue in your system.

this is the most thorough way to fix this issue.

Registry Disclaimer: The steps mentioned below includes system registry modification. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

a.    Click on Start; in the start search type regedit.exe and press Enter.

If you get a consent prompt, click on Yes.

b.    Browse through the following location.

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Schedule key and then delete its subkeys.

c.    Save the changes and then exit out of the registry editor.

Now check if Task Scheduler works.

    I found this task to be much easier by using Windows Explorer, right clicking on each of the following steps Windows directory, go down and look for Sys32, now go down to Task, then down to Task, after that go down to MicroSoft\now go down under this tree to Windows\ under that look for folder Windows Backup, finally you will see AutoMaticBackup file and WindowsBackUp Monitor, the final steps are right click on both of these files look for delete, click on delete for both of these files, I recommend restarting your computer then see if you can set up your BackUp settings again, make sure you have an external disk drive to save your autoback up files to,  such as an external hard disk using a USB CONNECTION. I used a SeaGate device with a 500 GB storage drive. In my opinion, when I.T.technicians or other computer Guru's advise you how to correct problems they tend to assume the average computer user requires that the step by step instructions that they give must be able to be understood by anyone with minimum computer knowledge. I don't recommend that any of us average computer users ever try to modify the systems registery, just to play it save create a system restore point before trying to delete or modify files,

    mostly a good solution, but one major inconsistency.

    after you find the task in system32 folder, you say to back it up, which is correct. then you have to delete it, which is also correct (tho in your description you were unclear that it had to be deleted from the system32 folder, and not to delete the backup you just made)

    anyway, the inconsistency is that you say to get the task from an uncorrupted computer.

    why do this, when you just backed up the task and saved it in an alternate location on the affected computer? or why back it up in the first place if you were getting it from another comp? answer: just backup the file and use that to import later, don't bother with trying to find another computer.  i mean really, most people don't have other exact computers to refer to.

    also, you have to go into the registry, using regedit, and actually delete the corrupted task keys from THAT. that's the important part.

    once all the corrupted tasks are deleted from the registry, then they can be imported successfully back into the task scheduler. and they CAN be imported from the backup copies you made, it is not necessary to get them from another computer, since the xml file was not what was corrupted..

    i've already posted in this thread on the exact steps to take in the reg editor to remove the corrupted registry keys. the exact steps can be found in the microsoft article MS10-092 at the link
