Does anyone recognize or have experience with www.support.me?

I have received several calls from (999)910-0250 about errors occurring on my PC and supposedly affecting Microsoft. I could not get the people to show or confirm that they were from Microsoft. They wanted me to go to www.support.me and put in a technician number but I refused based on a lack of confirmation that they were from Microsoft.

Has anyone else experienced this or is this really Microsoft?

HI Steve,

It is a SCAM!!! This company has been seen here before - so there's no doubt. Microsoft does not do that nor do they have partners who do that nor do they hire sub-contractors or people or even get volunteers to do that. There are probably thousands of such companies out there doing this every day - we get two or three messages like this (or more) every day asking about it. You are the lucky ones who recognized the scam enough not to be sucked into it and end up with identify theft, infections, hacking of your computer, convincing you to buy software or services you either don't need or that don't really exist at all, and all sorts of nefarious tricks. You'd be surprised by how many contact us AFTER they realized they'd been suckered asking what to do. Do not waste time talking to these people, do not give them any personal information whatsoever, do not be tricked by what they may get you to see on the computer - in fact, don't do anything they suggest on your computer or even visit websites they recommend, and for heaven's sake don't give them access to your computer.

Microsoft knows this goes on but with these companies springing up like dandelions, or closing and changing names when discovered, and mostly operating in foreign countries, it would take an army of lawyers to pursue every one of them. They do the best they can, but there simply are too many and more get added every day. People have to be careful of these things. They not only occur by phone, but also by e-mail, instant messaging, regular mail and every way imaginable. Just remember that Microsoft does not do this and hang up or delete emails or messages or mail from anyone claiming they are doing this because they know information about your computer or want information from you to confirm your account so it won't be closed and ask you for your username and password and all sorts of other personal information. Microsoft DOES NOT DO THIS!

I'm glad you didn't get caught by these scammers and saved yourself a big headache. Continue to use the same caution and you should do fine.

support.me is a very valid tool, the scam has nothing to do with the tools they use. Report malicious support people to logmein (that are using their tools):

Do not let a cold caller into your computer. If you have a trusted support person, & you can see, touch, and trust them, you may find, they use that good tool (at $1300/seat/yr-unlimited connections)..

Before you have let the scammers into your computer,write down the code they give you to connect, then hang up and report it, immediately (use the phone number in the above link). That will help stop those scammers from using that tech tool.

You say you purchased an ASUS laptop from Microsoft? If you don’t mind I would like to know the details of that purchase – I’m not aware of Microsoft selling any ASUS laptops. I might want to buy one from them myself. Where did you buy it and how?

The 855 961-0247 is a number being used in various adware scams. The number appears on screen and directs the user to call the number for assistance regarding a malware or other issue. The adware could have been downloaded from anywhere – it typically shows up in one of these “free downloads” of third party software to include games, music download sites and other non Microsoft programs. This is the latest scam variant – instead of calling you from a call center and telling you your computer is infected the scammers are conning consumers into calling them.

These bunch of <removed> with American Names got me for about $150.00 but I went through PayPal to pay them, so I got my money back. I have the name of the person and his email address where the money goes to. This guy must pay these <removed> a small amount and he gets the big cut. I told them that if my PC does not get fixed and they think ISIS is bad, " wait for me then" I also told the guy that called himself James to look at "Bill's Gun List". He would see what I ment. After a few weeks of trying to get ahold of those **** the "Head Lizard emailed me and told me that he was sending my money back I told him to keep it and build him a shelter because I was coming to get his ****.

About 3 months "James" one of the <removed> called me and said that www.support me wants to give me my $300.00 back because they did not fix my pc. I asked if they had my address James said yes and I told him to drop it in the mail. This time he said he was with the FTC Cyber Crime unit out of Chicago. I told him that was great because my uncle was Head Agent for the FBI in Chicago. He said he could not do it that way he said it has to be returned over the internet and wanted me to sit in front of my pc to give them control of my PC. I know they didn't think I had just fallen of a camel.

Anyway that's my experience with that so called company of <removed> Just be aware of those scammers who are making that "Head Lizard" very rich. I am still looking for a way to find him and pay him a social call, and he won't be happy.

If microsoft knows about these scammers, why doesn't microsoft close down this website?

I got two calls from the scammers, second time I burned up 30 minutes of their time playing their game. They heard dogs barking, and the computer needing to boot up twice and what not.

SO, IF MICROSOFT IS AWARE THAT SCAMMERS ARE POSING AS MICROSOFT SUPPORT TECHS, AND CONVINCING POOR SOULS TO GO TO WWW.SUPPORT.ME WHY HAS MICROSOFT NOT CLOSED DOWN THAT WEBSITE?
