Does anyone recognize or have experience with www.support.me?

I have received several calls from (999)910-0250 about errors occurring on my PC and supposedly affecting Microsoft. I could not get the people to show or confirm that they were from Microsoft. They wanted me to go to www.support.me and put in a technician number but I refused based on a lack of confirmation that they were from Microsoft.

Has anyone else experienced this or is this really Microsoft?

HI Steve,

It is a SCAM!!! This company has been seen here before - so there's no doubt. Microsoft does not do that nor do they have partners who do that nor do they hire sub-contractors or people or even get volunteers to do that. There are probably thousands of such companies out there doing this every day - we get two or three messages like this (or more) every day asking about it. You are the lucky ones who recognized the scam enough not to be sucked into it and end up with identify theft, infections, hacking of your computer, convincing you to buy software or services you either don't need or that don't really exist at all, and all sorts of nefarious tricks. You'd be surprised by how many contact us AFTER they realized they'd been suckered asking what to do. Do not waste time talking to these people, do not give them any personal information whatsoever, do not be tricked by what they may get you to see on the computer - in fact, don't do anything they suggest on your computer or even visit websites they recommend, and for heaven's sake don't give them access to your computer.

Microsoft knows this goes on but with these companies springing up like dandelions, or closing and changing names when discovered, and mostly operating in foreign countries, it would take an army of lawyers to pursue every one of them. They do the best they can, but there simply are too many and more get added every day. People have to be careful of these things. They not only occur by phone, but also by e-mail, instant messaging, regular mail and every way imaginable. Just remember that Microsoft does not do this and hang up or delete emails or messages or mail from anyone claiming they are doing this because they know information about your computer or want information from you to confirm your account so it won't be closed and ask you for your username and password and all sorts of other personal information. Microsoft DOES NOT DO THIS!

I'm glad you didn't get caught by these scammers and saved yourself a big headache. Continue to use the same caution and you should do fine.

support.me is a very valid tool, the scam has nothing to do with the tools they use. Report malicious support people to logmein (that are using their tools):

Do not let a cold caller into your computer. If you have a trusted support person, & you can see, touch, and trust them, you may find, they use that good tool (at $1300/seat/yr-unlimited connections)..

Before you have let the scammers into your computer,write down the code they give you to connect, then hang up and report it, immediately (use the phone number in the above link). That will help stop those scammers from using that tech tool.

Nicely done, you drove him through his script. If they call again and you can get the number from them go to:

and report them.... It will cost them big money.

If you still have the number they wanted you to use in logmein, you can still report them.

Do not let a cold caller into your computer.

Before you have let the scammers into your computer,write down the code they give you to connect, then hang up and report it.

After what looks like a rest, "They'r Back"... Got a call today aka Caller ID Thomas Anthony 928-772-7562 with a passionate plea that Microsoft was receiving 'Alerts' from my troubled system. So I played along, but told the caller with a heavy accent that I needed to call him back, as I was on another call. He gave me the return number of 567-252-5343. I didn't call back because he called me again in 10 min, just as he promised. WOW, this is better service than I get from Verizon and any help desk I've called. My story is the similar to recaps others have posted. First he asked me to run Event Viewer, a component of Microsoft's Windows NT line of operating systems, lets administrators and users view the event logs on a local or remote machine. In Windows Vista, Microsoft overhauled the event system.^[1]^ Due to the event viewer's routine reporting of minor start-up and processing errors (which do not in fact harm or damage the computer), the software is frequently used by technical support scammers to convince users unfamiliar with Event Viewer that their computer contains critical errors requiring immediate technical support. Being familiar with this service program I was OK running it, then immediately fired off my MALWAREBYTES checker for a scan. (my event Viewer reported 3,453 incidents, far less than the 27,652 I found on my corporate laptop) The caller was becoming obnoxious and belligerent since he knew I was stringing him along and running my scan, as my son was searching for the www.support.me URL the individual wanted me to execute. Unfortunately, he lost a ransom today, I saved myself from being a targeted hostage and I have Zero (0) malware Trojans on my computer. I have NO financial interest or direct association with, but continue to promote Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as one of if not THE BEST system protectors on today's market. It protects me often and has "Recovered" my family from 2 devastating attacks.

That is too funny... I did the same thing! I managed to waste 15 mins before Hodgie got p'd off at me and hung up! If everybody who takes a call from them realizing it's a scam would string them along for as long as they can before they finally figure out they've been had, they would give up. In my case, after I told him I had typed in wherever he wanted to send me, I told him he sent me to a porn site! This is the third or fourth time in the last couple of years I have done this... Think they'd quit calling by now!
