How do you change/edit the cell phone number in Windows Live/Hotmail?

I've followed prompts to pages which claim to allow you to change your cell/mobile phone.  But, when you get to the next page there is nothing when allows you to edit or change the number. It list the old cell number(which I have not used in 5 years)...I'm trying to get the calendar to send appointments to my phone.

The information in this post was accurate and correct in November 2011. It is no longer the correct way to change a phone number.

This is the procedure that should be used after November 2017:

Sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/

Click on Security

Click on Update your security info

Click on Add security info

Add the new number and remove the old

I just did this to remove an old phone number - in Hotmail - upper right Options - more options.

On left Show Options - Hotmail - under Managing Accounts - Account Details - Account Security -

Security Info - Manage - Delete the phone number and follow the rest of the prompts.

That is what worked for me however if you have any issues then use Hotmail's Support.

Answers is a peer supported group and unfortunately has no real influence on Hotmail.

HotMail has its own Forums so you should ask your questions there.

    I followed the above instruction and when I hit update security info it wants to send a code to a cellphone I number I no longer have.  Back to original issue....how to change the tel number so I can received codes??  There is no option provided to receive the code via email.

    This is SO frustrating I am considering changing from hotmail to gmail after years and years.  Travelling to 6 countries recently was nothing but frustrating going through email blocks and resetting passwords.  Can anyone provide a workable solution or let me know how I can contact support.

    My phone number and computer CARRY a BIG problem.

    For OVER one (1) year I know not how to change my PHONE NUMBER on the account.

    For OVER one (1) year now, I know not how to change the last four numbers of the phone number on the account.

    I can NOT change the phone number.

    I can NOT get a call on that PHONE number

    Please help me and tell me HOW to change the phone number?

    Security> Update your security info

    Remove the bad phone number and add a good number- either your current cell or the number of a friend or relative who will pass on a code to you

    Also under add security info you can supposedly add the number of a landline to receive a code via voice.

    You can also add an alternate email address to receive a code, but I've heard rumors that Microsoft won't send out a code this way anymore.

    Microsoft NEVER fixes the problem.

    Microsoft NEVER does anything GOOD to help anyone with this problem.

    I can NOT change the phone number.

    I can NOT get a call on that PHONE number because it BELONGS to a LIAR, a CHEATER, a THIEF.

    Please help me and tell me HOW to change the phone number?
