0xc000000e Boot Error

[b]Windows failed to start. A Recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
Choose your langugae settings, and then click next
Click "repair your computer."

Status: 0xc000000eInfo: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.[/b] I got this error after some random point in time on my computer. At the time I had two instances of windows on my computer and after this point it took me a week or two to find my windows install dvd but once I did none of the repair tools seemed to work and it would always end up with this error. I then decided to give up and just install windows 7 on the hdd I didn't have an instance of windows on since I have 3 hdd. This worked well for 4 days until this morning when the same error message popped up on me. I hadn't even gotten around to reinstalling all the same programs as my other instance of windows. Also in the meantime while using the newest instance of windows the computer never recognized that there were 2 other instances of windows but now today while going about fixing the newest instance of windows it did decide to recognize that there is at least one other form of windows on the computer. While rebooting trying every type of repair tool I was able to boot into the older form of windows but none of my programs worked and I wasn't able to connect to the internet and eventually on a random reboot in which I didn't press any buttons I am again on my newest version of windows. I really have no clue what is going on and this is quite frustrating at the moment since I don't know what is wrong. I thought it might be one of my hdd but unless it is all 3 of them then I really don't think it is them. Also when running the restart repair (I think that's what it was called) it said it could find no problems but there was one root error. I am not sure what that means but maybe that might help. If there is any additional info that would help to find the solution to this problem please let me know. Thanks ahead of time for any assistance.

1. Since when are you facing this issue?

2. Any recent changes made to the computer?

Method 1:

Unplug all the external devices and try booting and check.

Method 2:

Check if you are able to boot in safe mode or not:

If yes,I suggest you to put the computer inclean boot state and check.

To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note:

Method 3:

If not, I suggest you toRebuild the BCD store manually by using the Bcdedit.exe tool.

I am back to 100% now. It appears when flashing bios, or making any driver changes that change values in the MBR you have to, must, must, must reconfigure them to exactly the way they were prior to the update else you will corrupt the hand off between the boot loader and the MBR. My issue was nasty as it could not go into recovery mode, command prompt, and it did not recognize the Win7 install disk as valid. All is well here but I just did a full OS rebuild and spend a few days making all the necessary mklink /j switches to migrate all the bloated DB and cache files off the SSD OS disk onto my SATA HDDs where programs and data is stored.

Thank you John. I had this problem after a failed automatic Windows video card driver update following the installation of a new video card and power supply. It may have been precipitated by the memory chips needing reseating, which solved a reduced memory problem.

Unplugging the USB cable connecting the Dell monitor's USB hub solved the boot problem. I only discovered this after reading this thread, following a failed Windows 7 64-bit DVD recovery attempt.

Interestingly, when attempting to run the Windows Repair, Windows did not even list the OS to be selected and repaired, giving the impression that the disk drivers were unavailable. Nasty problem.

Since this thread created before 2 year, I would suggest you to begin your own, new thread about YOUR specific problem this will help you to avoid confusion (and permanent damage to your computer).

Good to see Microsoft staff are just as good at costumer care as always.

Ya can't even give the guy a suggestion or delete his post from this thread making this one that much more tidy.

This MIGHT be a 2-3-4 year old thread but people MIGHT still come across this problem. Not like we're all using touch-screen hand-held computers now and all this windows 7/8 stuff is decades behind us.

PS. I'm still looking for a solution for my xc000000e error problem. However since I can't give anymore info than isn't already here I shall keep searching..

Use Windows 8 bootable DVD or USB and boot.

Select option to repair your system instead of installing.

Go to command prompt (in advanced options) and hit following commands to repair MBR.

bootrec /fixmbr

bootrec /fixboot

bootrec /rebuildbcd

Press [y] when system asks you to accept.

Exit

Now, use option: Refresh your PC in advanced option

Reboot

My problem is solved ( 0xc000000e). Try for yours.

Just came across this thread and these steps worked for me as well.

My specific were that I restored a Windows Server Essentials 2012 R2 backup to a new hard drive. Client OS is Windows 7 Pro. I've done this many times on different computers but for some reason this time I got error 0xc000000e on boot.

Per the instructions I created a Win 8.1 boot disk on a USB, selected repair, and issued the three bootrec commands. System then booted normally.

Thanks to loverOfCode for saving me many hours of troubleshooting!
