[b]Windows failed to start. A Recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

  1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
  2. Choose your langugae settings, and then click next
  3. Click "repair your computer."

Status: 0xc000000eInfo: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.[/b] I got this error after some random point in time on my computer. At the time I had two instances of windows on my computer and after this point it took me a week or two to find my windows install dvd but once I did none of the repair tools seemed to work and it would always end up with this error. I then decided to give up and just install windows 7 on the hdd I didn't have an instance of windows on since I have 3 hdd. This worked well for 4 days until this morning when the same error message popped up on me. I hadn't even gotten around to reinstalling all the same programs as my other instance of windows. Also in the meantime while using the newest instance of windows the computer never recognized that there were 2 other instances of windows but now today while going about fixing the newest instance of windows it did decide to recognize that there is at least one other form of windows on the computer. While rebooting trying every type of repair tool I was able to boot into the older form of windows but none of my programs worked and I wasn't able to connect to the internet and eventually on a random reboot in which I didn't press any buttons I am again on my newest version of windows. I really have no clue what is going on and this is quite frustrating at the moment since I don't know what is wrong. I thought it might be one of my hdd but unless it is all 3 of them then I really don't think it is them. Also when running the restart repair (I think that's what it was called) it said it could find no problems but there was one root error. I am not sure what that means but maybe that might help. If there is any additional info that would help to find the solution to this problem please let me know. Thanks ahead of time for any assistance.

Hello Andrew,

1.    Since when are you facing this issue?

2.    Any recent changes made to the computer?

Method 1:

Unplug all the external devices and try booting and check.

Method 2:

Check if you are able to boot in safe mode or not:

If yes,I suggest you to put the computer inclean boot state and check.

To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note:

After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps in the above article to reset the computer to start as usual.

If not,try perfomring astartup repair and check:

Method 3:

If not, I suggest you toRebuild the BCD store manually by using the Bcdedit.exe tool.

    Vinod N reply is good but it did not solve my problem.  Here is what did:

    There is a free piece of software you can use to quickly check to see if this is your problem -TestDisk.exe

    My problem looked like this

    NOTE: There are two (2) Partition #1's.  Both occupy the same sectors 2048 thru 264191.

    What I found was the first one listed was corrupt. (Do the QUICK SEARCH and then look at the files/folders in each)

    I used TestDisk to mark the corrupt one DELETED

    Then wrote the results

    I also had to use another piece of software called VisualBCD

    But the basic problem was the weird added partition and TestDisk fixed that.

    I happen to have a Disk Management Screenshot before the problems.  Here is a before and after.  It look untidy but it works 100%

    NOTE - THIS IS A DUAL BOOT ARRANGEMENT. Normally you'd have an EFI Partition also. (In my case the EFI Partition is on the Windows 7 Disk)

    I done for typing 

    Bootrec  /fixmbr 

    Bootrec  /fixboot 

    but

    Bootrec /rebuildbcd 

    and typing  (Y)

    But the answer is " the requested system device cannot be found"

    Help me please

    when i use the DVD from windows 8.1

    Glad you got it fixed, the cable was also my solution the first time I got the error. However the second time was caused by a 3rd party software tech support accessing the computer remotely and doing a clean up. During the process he deleted some essential file[s] required for windows boot. The file was \Windows\System32\win.exe.

    So the moral here is to never let someone access your computer remotely. However I have had mine accessed at other times by Norton and others that worked out just fine.
