Windows Update fails to install updates KB2539636, KB2533523, and KB2468871.

my windows update has installed updates today august 10 2011. but these three dotnet updates (KB2539636  KB2533523  KB2468871) failed to install... can anyone help me please?? thank you...

btw i am using windows 7 home premium

...x64 - is for 64bit WIndows 7

...x86 - is for 32bit WIndows 7

How to find out if Windows 7 is 32bit or 64bit is here:

Maybe what you can try (before you try points 1..11) only turn Off your antivirus and turn Off UAC, then manually install the updates  that failed to installand  run Windows update to install rest of updates. Turn On your antivirus and turn On UAC. How turn Off UAC see point 5).

If these steps above not help, try to use these ones:

1) uninstall Net Framework 4.0 client from „Uninstall and change program“:

2) If you still see Net Framework 4.0 client in „Uninstall and change program“ use this tool for unistallation Net Framework 4.0 client:

    download, unpack and run „cleanup_tool.exe“ – from pull-down menu choose „.NET Framework 4“ and click „Cleanup Now“

  1. After uninstallation restart computer
  2. Turn Off (Disable) your antivirus
  3. Turn Off UAC (User Account Control) – howto do it:

6) Download and install Net Framework 4.0 from here (choose right language):

      (same for 32bit OS and 64bit OS)

7) restart computer

8) try to install manually all updates (KB??????) that failed to install

9) run Windows update and install rest of updates

10) T****urn On UAC (User Account Control) – howto do it:

11) Turn On (Enable) your antivirus

    I read through the various answers and while trying to follow the directions listed, I turned off my anti-virus program momentarily and tried to download the updates.

    I downloaded these three updates individually and they installed perfectly. Once I restarted my computer (required to complete install) I turned my anti-virus program back on and things are working normally.

    I hope this easy fix helps others too. :-)

    To L C, yes, as far as I can tell all 3 updates were installed by the manual method.  I am not a computer whiz.  A lot of things that were on this forum I do not understand.  The update history does not show the manual install, however, the "installed updates" does show it as installed., even kb2468871.  When auto install tried to install SP 1 it failed???  Did not know what to do so I finally hid it.  I will go back and see if I can get that installed.  Any help on that would sure be appreciated.  MicroSoft is sure pushing us to Apple, just sayin..............

    I have W7 Home Premium, 64 bit, HP desktop.  I sure do miss W XP!

    interesting - you can try "sfc /scannow" from elevated command prompt -here is how to do it:

    Windows 7 SP1 is a chapter****in itself. Can you see any error code?

    Hi LC -

    Thanks for the link and the suggested procedure.  Would this work for Vista?  It looks a bit tech-y for me but I may have a try tomorrow when I've more time.  What's also puzzling me is that when I restart my PC and check for updates it now shows a message: "Windows is up to date", but all six problem updates are listed as Failed.  Don't want to spend more time (and money) trying to sort out a non-problem.
