how do you remove shortcut arrow from desktop icon

i have win7 pro 64bit .....and i want to remove shortcut arrow from desktop icon....plz can u suggest me how to do it.....which registry have to be deleted?

Although it's possible to remove the arrow, my recommendation is that

you do not do this. The arrows serve an important

function--providing quick visual identification of a shortcut. If you

remove the arrows, you run the substantial risk that sooner or later

you will delete something you wanted to keep, thinking that you were

just deleting a shortcut to it. I would leave the arrows as they are.

I think there are valid situations for this. I would like to remove the arrow for shortcuts on the Desktop that I keep to certain folders. I have file extensions on and don't keep installers on the Desktop, so I don't see the harm in removing the arrow from my "Documents" shortcut. I won't ever think Documents is actually stored on the Desktop. And if anything, it would only make me more hesitant to delete a shortcut, not more likely to delete a real folder. I wouldn't advocate removing the arrow systemwide, but it would be useful for specific Desktop icons. This is obviously the case, because Microsoft decided to remove the arrow for the "User's Files" folder added through the "Desktop Icon Settings" panel.

There should be an option in contropanel>folders to remove it.

No doubt, but there never has been, and Monopoly$oft is never going to make a change in Windows

(at least not Win7) for you to remove it.

This is only one of a number of fails that Monopoly$oft will not fix

( inability to disable auto-arrange is my pet issue, but a third party fix is there for that as well ).

You have to accept that you will need to use a third party, software or leave the arrows there.

We could put a positive on this. Fixing issues with Windows has always given open source programmers

something to do, and something to display their talents with. An addition to their programming portfolio

and maybe a job, or some dosh for their efforts via user contributions to their web site.

It's not really desirable for Monopoly$of to do everything. If they did the would be accused of forming....

Enough talk on the arrow imperative.

Nobody will just delete a desktop item without knowing/checking what it's all about.

If the folder is a short cut, a right click will show the option "open to folder".

The arrow is downright ugly (like the shadow), and I don't like to meddle with registries.

There should be an option in contropanel>folders to remove it.

Because we're not your grandfather who doesn't know the difference between a browser and an extension. We know which files are the executables and which others are desktop shortcuts. We only wanted to make our desktops look better. Stop stalling!
