Originally, (beginning of December 2010) my Canon Powershot camera (SX110IS attached beautifully. Now it gives the failed to install message whenever I attach it. "Device driver software was not successfully installed" "MTP USB Device Failed. Please help.

In other words try a different port. The ones that have a blue strip on them are the higher speed.

After pulling my hair out and listening to everybody tell me how to go into registry and remove this or that, uninstall this and re-boot. I finally figured it out. Plug your device into a more powerful USB port. The 3 USB port that you had it plugged into at the beginning. Someone told me that a iphone wouldn't work on speed 3 USB so I pugged it into a speed 2 USB and that was the problem. As soon as I pluged it into the higher speed port again the MTP USB Device problem no longer occured. Hope this helps.

Were you logged in with Administrative privileges when attempting to delete ??

Found this help more useful than most, however after locating D98-8080-425F-etc,etc and attempting to delete I got a pop-up that stated Can not delete. Error while deleting key. Does this mean I have a virus or something? What do I do next? all attached folders were deleted and yet the registry key remained. I will shutdown and re-boot and then check again

Hi,

Method 1:

Disconnect all the external devices (printers, scanner, USB (Universal Serial Bus) drives, etc...)Except mouse and the keyboard and then boot up.

If this corrects the issue then add the devices back one at a time until you discover the piece of hardware causing the issue. Then get any updated drivers\software for the device.

Method 2:

If you still come across the issue, I suggest you to run Hardware Troubleshooter and then check for the issue.

a) Open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter by clicking the Start button and then clicking Control Panel.

b) In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under Hardware and Sound, click Configure a device.‌

c) If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Method 3:

If the above step does not help us to diagnose the issue, uninstall the drivers for USB [Universal Serial bus] host controller and restart the computer. Let Windows install the generic drivers and then see if it helps you to fix the issue.

a) Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, then Device Manager in the search box.‌

b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

c) Look for the device under USB [Universal Serial bus] host controller, right click on it and select Uninstall.

d) Reboot the computer.

e) On reboot, Windows 7 should re-install the drivers automatically.

Method 4:

If the above methods don’t work you can try to reinstall the drivers for your Canon Camera. To do so refer the link provided below:
