A few days ago i noticed an update for Windows 7 Service Pack 1. I tried to install it today, it worked fine right up to the moment it asks to reboot the computer. Then after rebooting it starts up as normal update procedure however as it gets to 99% on Configuring Service Pack, it fails and I am left stuck at "Failure Configuring Service Pack, reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" for over 10 minutes then shuts down. Then on Bootup i notice nothing has changed and the same thing repeats. Please Help

Ok guys after weeks of not replying back after i forgot bout this question, i have managed to get it working, but that was a few months after my laptop broke in which i had to reset to factory settings, which reset all the system updates done to the laptop, then when i tried installing IE 9 and Windows 7 service pack 1 they both succeeded without issues. Guess the whole problem the entire time was a faulty update

Not sure if this will help but I have had problems (as mentioned above) with one of my laptops. No matter what I did SP1 would not install let alone fail configuration.
Eventually I gave up and re-installed windows completely (no in-place upgrade) and before I installed the antivirus or anything else I tried again, Installed first time.
Now I did read on other forums that the main issue seems to be with AMD processors - My laptop with an Intel processor installed with little fuss but the one I had problems with has an AMD processor.
May be people would like to post if the problem installs are with AMD processors?
I cannot believe the time I have wasted with the install, you would think that updates would be properly tested - I know that there will be instances where an update goes pear shape but to post a solution that tells you to restore all your settings back to day one is incredible!
I would expect an in-place upgrade or complete re-installation to be the last resort not one of the first fixes.
If anyone knows when SP2 is coming out please let me know so that I can book time off work.
I am having the exact same problem as the original poster on my Toshiba NB205 laptop. After my next backup restore (Win7 restore original config fails) I will give up on SP1 for good, perhaps until SP2 comes out (and relive the same problem then). Sad.
EDIT: Oh, and yes, on the 2nd try I completed all the suggested steps in this thread without any errors found.
This is the first time that a Windoze OS Service Pack has failed, and not to mention so utterly and completely broken the system. And I have been using Windows since the very first version..

I would be able to try that with the Acer, but not with the Compaq laptop. It doesn't have a windows 7 dvd. It like most computers these days comes with software that you have to make your own recovery dvds.
