A few days ago i noticed an update for Windows 7 Service Pack 1. I tried to install it today, it worked fine right up to the moment it asks to reboot the computer. Then after rebooting it starts up as normal update procedure however as it gets to 99% on Configuring Service Pack, it fails and I am left stuck at "Failure Configuring Service Pack, reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" for over 10 minutes then shuts down. Then on Bootup i notice nothing has changed and the same thing repeats. Please Help

Ok guys after weeks of not replying back after i forgot bout this question, i have managed to get it working, but that was a few months after my laptop broke in which i had to reset to factory settings, which reset all the system updates done to the laptop, then when i tried installing IE 9 and Windows 7 service pack 1 they both succeeded without issues. Guess the whole problem the entire time was a faulty update

I realize that JW has already recommended downloading and running the System Update Readiness Tool, so please skip the step for downloading if you have already done so. Please go through this troubleshooter in order and let us know the results of the scans / utilities.
1.Depending on your Windows 7 architecture, download / install and run theSystem Update Readiness Tool- CheckSur You can download the toolfrom the links below in accordance with your system type.

2. Click Start type cmd (you should see the command prompt populate at the top) Right-click it and select Run as Administrator ****Inside the prompt type sfc /scannow
*For more information regarding theSystem File Checker.
*If corruption is found, seeHow to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7.
3. Once the SFC is complete,Check your hard drive for errors.
4. Run the System Update Readiness Tool again. If the errors have been cleared, try installing Service Pack 1 again. If not, move to step 5.
5. Perform aStartup Repair, upon startup, try installing the Service Pack.

Thanks for the info. However, my attempts to install SP1 on Windows 7 Home Premium failed (or at least there's some big problem) such that I cannot even get into Windows anymore to try some of the things you're suggesting.
SP1 appeared to install successfully. However, upon reboot, my system gets stuck at Configuring Service Pack 7% - 8% - 9% - ... - 14% (and it takes forever to get to 14%), then it reboots and starts all over again. I'm never able to get past 14% and into Windows.
Any thoughts? Any help? If I can't get past this, I'm pretty screwed.

I have the same issue on two computers as well. A third installed without issue in under 30 minutes.
