How do I finalize a disk (CD-R and DVD+/-R) using Windows ?

Hi:

My question is still unanswered.

The program that I am using to "burn" the disks is Windows Vista 32-bit Home Premium.

I can burn JPEG picture files from my digital camera to a CD or DVD.

This following is what Microsoft's web page information states.

What isn't clear is if I want to just add pictures to a disk after closing the first burn session, if the disk type has to be RW , not just R.

To me RW means that I can rewrite the entire disk, not just add to it.

If you "Close" the burn-session, this does not finalize it...

you can still write to the disk.

You can't write to the disk once it is finalized.  In order for Sony's CD/DVD player to be able to read the CD, the CD must be finalized.

So, I have "burned" all of the files that I want to the disk.

Now, how do I finalize a CD or DVD that I have burned with Windows ?

Ejecting the disk does not finalize it ... Properties will tell you that you have free-space left on the disk.  If the disk is finalized, the free space will be zero, since you can no longer write to the disk.

If you notice the last line of the following Win 7 article...it states :

"When you burn a CD or DVD using Windows Explorer, the disc

is not finalized."

Maybe it would be worth a try to burn you photo CD or DVD

(Data Disc) using the following freeware (it has the option to

finalise the disc):

If you want to play a disk in a dvd player you have to use a dvd + - R, cd's are mostly for data recovery disks not for new technology players, as far as adding to a disk later, you will have to edit the project and re-burn it, it's not likely you can just slip in the disk and add to it.

The easiest program to burn dvd's is windows live photo gallery, pick out and highlight the photos you want to burn to dvd+ or - R,

Click the dark blue file button, click on burn and then dvd burn, those photos will open in a dialog review box where you can drag them in the order you want them to play in, when done sorting, click on next and follow the other personalization's for the slide show.

It's actually easier than falling off a log,

That slide show will be retained as a project you can add to in the future, open the project, and add to it and re burn.

When Windows finishes "burning" a disk, the disk is not finalized.

The disk still has to be finalized.   So, the key point is...

How do I finalize a CD with Windows, once it has been burned ???

Or...

Are you trying to say that Windows doesn't have the capability to finalize a disk ???
