How do I finalize a disk (CD-R and DVD+/-R) using Windows ?

Hi:

How do I "finalize" a disk (CD-R and DVD+/-R) using Windows ?

I want to finalize the disk...not just close the session/disk.

From what I have read in Windows Help, "closing" allows me to write to the disk later.

Is this true, if the disk is just R, not RW ?

I have burned JPEG images (.jpg files) to CD-R and DVD+R disks.

When I try to play them in my Sony CD/DVD player, it won't recognize the disks.

Sony's user manual says that the disks must be "finalized", not just "closed".

How do I do that with Windows ?

I treid finalizing these disks with Roxio Creator Basic, but it doesn't do anything, except eject the disks.

Windows still says that the disks have free space, and the DVD player can't recognize them.

From what I understand, if the disk is finalized, the will show no free space available.  Is this correct ?

Note:  The disks work correctly on my HP laptop which uses Vista 32-bit Home Premium.  I can view the JPEG images.

    Okay, are you saying the answer is "You can't finalize a CD or DVD using Windows Explorer"? People keep talking about closing a CD or DVD. Closing is not finalizing. If this is the answer, it sure took a lot of work to get here.

    I have the same problem... I cannot FINALIZE a disc.

    This is a very simple and direct.  How does one FINALIZE a disc?

    The questions that you guys ask him are irrelevant!  The question is simple... HOW DO YOU FINALIZE A DISC?

    Your frustration is understandable. There are way to many people who choose to make themselves a fool pretending to give advice when they do not know what they are talking about.

    The answer, nearest I can figure is quite simple, Windows 7 (explorer) does not finalize discs.  The developers were not smart enough to include that functionality. Instead, they choose to lie, as well as try to baffle people with BS rather than admitting the fact that they neglected to include that very important and necessary feature.

    As has been the typical mentality of Microsoft executives and technicians, they prefer to dictate to people what practices are correct even when doing so does not sync with reality and is delusional.

    To get past the problem that a delusional Microsoft has created, you must install a third party disc burner that has the capacity to finalize the discs you burn.

    I know, I could have been nicer but considering that so many answers on this question have been posted by a bunch of intellectually limited individuals, posers, who do not know what finalizing a disc is or means, their cruel lack of integrity just brings out the harshness in me.
