Adding MKV files to the Windows Media Player library

How do I add MKV files to the "Video" section rather than the "Other" section of the library?

Copy/paste the following into Notepad, save it as  WMP_MKV.reg , double click this file to add it to the registry, and restart WMP:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

 

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.mkv]

"PerceivedType"="video"

 

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Multimedia\WMPlayer\Extensions.mkv]

"PerceivedType"="video"

"Permissions"=dword:0000000f

"Runtime"=dword:00000007

 

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\MLS\Extensions]

"mkv"="video"

After that, MKV files will be added to  Video instead of to Other media (it might be necessary to re-add the files).

    Daniel: not being able to seek is normal, it's caused by the fact that WMP doesn't know how to get the duration of the MKV files. You can work around this by opening the files from Windows Explorer instead of WMP.

    I don't understand what you're trying to say about the Sony Blu-ray player, please clarify.

    so I just tried everything as you wrote it.

    now the movies are in WMP12.

    I can with them but not to fastforward.

    always jumping back to the beginning.

    the sony blurayplayer they can find but still not!
