What is Microsoft Silverlight and why do I need it?

Can someone explain the benefits of MS Silverlight (both Pros and Cons)? Sorry to ask and I might be able to figure it out if I had time to open it up and see exactly each feature does, but just from opening the program up for the first time; I'm not sure that I need it or what it is for exactly? Thanks in advance for any insight someone can give me.

You need it if you want to go to web pages that use it. If you don't,

you don't need it.

As far as I'm concerned, you should have it, since it gives you the

ability to go to web pages you might want.

Hi,

Check this site :

Microsoft SilverLight - on left - Learn Why SilverLight is right for you.

http://www.silverlight.net/

Also there are tutorials there and even its own Community and Forums.

Hope this helps.

its just a copy of adobe flash..... microsoft felt they needed their own "special flash thingy" to feel accomplished or what have you.  Basically someone at microsoft spoke up one day and said " Hey! adobe has the flash player for webpages, we should totally rip that off and put a new name on it so people think its important for them to have because its a microsoft product!"  its completely unneccesary to have except for that web companies have "taken the bait" and are now splitting what was once so simple and so universal so they can get microsofts name on their site.... **** retarded, if you ask me windows is no better than apple when it comes to soaking the masses for all their worth for stupid little apps and add ons and bloatware this bloatware that.  XP was windows last TRUE OS because it was built with a focus on functionality and not "let's see if we just put this graphic here and touchscreen that we can charge this much more for our OS even though its already WAY overpriced... oh and just in case anyone wants to do the troll thing and get the last word in, don't waste your time. TBH, Linux has been doing it right this whole time.... built by the people, for the people... FREE!

Any trolling comments and or attacks will be ignored so again don't waste your time( even though I'm sure someone will try, thats just how idiots work.

Have a good day everyone :)

This****is the most unhelpful advice I have ever seen in my whole life!!!  And I have been alive for just a little longer than computers have.

Thank you very much Mr Blake for such an insightful bit of advice, now i can make an informed decision without the worry of bad consequences.  (0_0)
