What is Microsoft Silverlight and why do I need it?

Can someone explain the benefits of MS Silverlight (both Pros and Cons)? Sorry to ask and I might be able to figure it out if I had time to open it up and see exactly each feature does, but just from opening the program up for the first time; I'm not sure that I need it or what it is for exactly? Thanks in advance for any insight someone can give me.

You need it if you want to go to web pages that use it. If you don't,

you don't need it.

As far as I'm concerned, you should have it, since it gives you the

ability to go to web pages you might want.

Hi,

Check this site :

Microsoft SilverLight - on left - Learn Why SilverLight is right for you.

http://www.silverlight.net/

Also there are tutorials there and even its own Community and Forums.

Hope this helps.

I wasn't able to activate Skygo today so I rang up Sky. They said it's a glich on Microsoft Silverlight, delete it, switch off your PC, start again, go back into Skygo.com, follow the prompt  and download Silverlight again. I did and Skygo worked. So if anyone has a similar problem, they know what to do now.

Yes, I had the same questions, so I reviewed the tutorials and it was helpful to as what it might do. I was expecting Silverlight to be another Google Chrome, FireFox, or IE, but to me, its something like an add-on to use to enhance other programs. Thats the best that I got out of it. I still dont know what it does or why I might need it, after all I am not a geek tweeker or am I an IT intellect.
