All of my shortcuts go to the same program and they all have the extension, .lnk.

When I look at the table of file extensions I see a prticular program indicated, and that program is the program that starts up when I click on any shortcut.  I see no way of changing that so that when I click on Internet Explorer, for example, Internet Explorer comes up instead of the wrong program.

Hi Mensard1,

I had the same problem. I solved it by downloading  http://www.creativelement.com/powertools/ and then running the program (from the directory, as none of my shortcuts were working) "File Type Doctor". When I selected ".lnk" in the extension list it said in the Actions in the Right Click Menu:

"(user choice override)" in red ... and

"Open"

I then removed the "(user choice override)" and that was it. All the shortcuts were working again, just like they used to.

    hi mister if you can't fix your problem i advice you to try this link and i'm absoulently shure that your computer will be all right after you use this software from the windows club here the link to download by the way is free software not like the others  : http://www.thewindowsclub.com/repair-windows-media-player-with-fix-wmp-utilityi'm too have the same problem and i fix the problem by this software  and my problem was : that all my shortcuts is refer to the same programe ( and my programe here was the klite media player ) for exemple if i choose to open any program from his shortcut on the desktop the klite media player start and run instead of the origin program and all the programs shortcuts was changed to the shrtcut of klite media player .....NB : i'm try to run the software to fix but nothing to do , what i'm doing after i search to uninstal the klite media player but he never present in the list of the uninstaler manager i'm going after to the source of program (klite media player) or in the place who are instaled (c: programe file / klite / uninstaler ) and i can't find it tell me what i do ?i choose to instal it again and after that i uninstall it and after that i going to the software to make it fix the problem .finally i'm succed to fix all my shortcut in my computer .

    Microsoft....

    Something like this is very common for a user to right click and tell the system to open something with a certain program. It should never override ALL the shortcuts on a desktop....really and you guys are professionals up there? What are you thinking anyway?

    This should never EVER happen other than to the ONE and ONLY file that was being instructed to be opened by whatever program that was selected not ALL the shortcuts.

    I thought they had a drug testing policy for corporate jobs like the one you guys have....geez.

    And the suggestion that the engineer here gave is not what will solve the issue, only that tool that was linked in here a couple times will do it or you can manually do it yourself.

    Bad service, bad design and then to turn around and try to get people to believe it's something they did on their end and they made the "mistake" when you should've had this product set up from jump to NOT allow something like that to happen. Your mistake your bad design, it's all on YOUR end. FIx it.
