Update Windows media player to 2.5.0.1 on Windows 7

I am trying to use the OverDrive Media console but I cannot upload books because it says the security on my windows media player is out of date.  I tried the upgrade tool that is built into OverDrive but nothing happened.  Then I tried the website everyone says to go to (http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp) and that did nothing.  The button is not pushable.  I think it has something to do with Windows 7 that is causing the problem.  Any Ideas?

Hi Dsa2402,

a) Do you get any error message when you try to upload/download books?

Currently there is no security update for Windows Media Player.

Check if your Over Drive Media console is compatible for Windows 7. Click here

You may also try the following steps. This may not be a resolution but a possible workaround. ( only if you get the following "error code 0×80070057: The parameter is incorrect for OverDrive media console ” )

  1. Open “Control Panel”.
  2. Open “Folder Options” and select the “View” tab.
  3. Select “Show hidden files and folders”.
  4. UNCHECK “Hide protected operating system files”.
  5. In the warning message you receive, click “Yes”.
  6. Click “OK”.
  7. Close the Control Panel
  8. Click the Start button. In the “Start Search” box, paste the following:

C:\Users\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\DRM

  1. Delete ONLY the following 4 files:

blackbox.bin

drmstore.hds

v3ks.bla

v3ks.sec

  1. Close this window and open OverDrive Media Console.
  2. Go to “Tools > Windows Media Player Security Upgrade”.
  3. Once the upgrade is complete, try downloading a book.

    Try it in Internet Explorer instead of Chrome or Firefox.

    • I had all the same problems and then found this site.   I tried putting in the origianal thread similar to this and it didn't work.  This one had a  has a few additional paths at the end and it went right to the windows security update for windows 7 and actually let me download it.

    Some application that I am installing is breaking the Security Component Upgrade. I haven't figured out exactly which application is causing the problem but I have found that if I install Windows 7, Overdrive Media Console, DRM Security Update, remaining Windows updates; everything works fine. Sometime later after installing some other applications Overdrive Media Console will stop working with the error "You must restart your machine in order to playback this file". I tired all of the likely culprits (Media Codecs etc) and couldn't figure out exactly which application was causing the problem, Media Mall limits the number of items you can check out (and won't let you check them back in) and also the number of times you can download an item making it difficult to narrow it down (I have 50 or 60 applications to install). What I ended up doing was installing Windows 7 on an external hard drive and when I want to use Overdrive Media console, I boot the computer from the external hard drive.
