Update Windows media player to 2.5.0.1 on Windows 7

I am trying to use the OverDrive Media console but I cannot upload books because it says the security on my windows media player is out of date.  I tried the upgrade tool that is built into OverDrive but nothing happened.  Then I tried the website everyone says to go to (http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp) and that did nothing.  The button is not pushable.  I think it has something to do with Windows 7 that is causing the problem.  Any Ideas?

Hi Dsa2402,

a) Do you get any error message when you try to upload/download books?

Currently there is no security update for Windows Media Player.

Check if your Over Drive Media console is compatible for Windows 7. Click here

You may also try the following steps. This may not be a resolution but a possible workaround. ( only if you get the following "error code 0×80070057: The parameter is incorrect for OverDrive media console ” )

  1. Open “Control Panel”.
  2. Open “Folder Options” and select the “View” tab.
  3. Select “Show hidden files and folders”.
  4. UNCHECK “Hide protected operating system files”.
  5. In the warning message you receive, click “Yes”.
  6. Click “OK”.
  7. Close the Control Panel
  8. Click the Start button. In the “Start Search” box, paste the following:

C:\Users\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\DRM

  1. Delete ONLY the following 4 files:

blackbox.bin

drmstore.hds

v3ks.bla

v3ks.sec

  1. Close this window and open OverDrive Media Console.
  2. Go to “Tools > Windows Media Player Security Upgrade”.
  3. Once the upgrade is complete, try downloading a book.

    You dont need to go to Windows Media player but follow the instructions.

    1- Open the "OverDrive Media Console"

    2- Click on "tools"

    3- Click on the First drop down "Windows Media Player Security Upgrade"

    4- Click "OK"

    5- All set, you are done with security patch.

     I do that but there's nothing that actually happens , it  just grays  all the other buttons in overdrive and when I try the website I get Components could not be updated.

    I had the exact same problem with OverDrive Media saying that my windows medial player needed a security update and the button wouldn't click.  The problem turned out to be . . . using Chrome.  When I copied/pasted the link into internet explorer everything updated perfectly.
