Update Windows media player to 2.5.0.1 on Windows 7

I am trying to use the OverDrive Media console but I cannot upload books because it says the security on my windows media player is out of date.  I tried the upgrade tool that is built into OverDrive but nothing happened.  Then I tried the website everyone says to go to (http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp) and that did nothing.  The button is not pushable.  I think it has something to do with Windows 7 that is causing the problem.  Any Ideas?

Hi Dsa2402,

a) Do you get any error message when you try to upload/download books?

Currently there is no security update for Windows Media Player.

Check if your Over Drive Media console is compatible for Windows 7. Click here

You may also try the following steps. This may not be a resolution but a possible workaround. ( only if you get the following "error code 0×80070057: The parameter is incorrect for OverDrive media console ” )

  1. Open “Control Panel”.
  2. Open “Folder Options” and select the “View” tab.
  3. Select “Show hidden files and folders”.
  4. UNCHECK “Hide protected operating system files”.
  5. In the warning message you receive, click “Yes”.
  6. Click “OK”.
  7. Close the Control Panel
  8. Click the Start button. In the “Start Search” box, paste the following:

C:\Users\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\DRM

  1. Delete ONLY the following 4 files:

blackbox.bin

drmstore.hds

v3ks.bla

v3ks.sec

  1. Close this window and open OverDrive Media Console.
  2. Go to “Tools > Windows Media Player Security Upgrade”.
  3. Once the upgrade is complete, try downloading a book.

    For all windows 8 users: None of the solutions offered on the forums work. I called the Overdrive support center. This is the solution:

    -open IE 10 as administrator (right mouse click IE, click on "run as administrator)

    -copy/paste and open: http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp

    -open IE tools (wheel at top right) and select "F12 developer tools"

    -an extra screen appears at the bottom of the screen. Click on the box: browser mode: IE10

    -from popup select: internet explorer 10 compatibility mode view

    -NOW click on UPGRADE box.

    Presto: problem solved.

    Microsoft doesn't design the Media Overdrive program, and it is IMPOSSIBLE to be able to support every third party application.  Any support should be through the app designer.  As frustrating as it is, (and I am going through the same thing right now) you have to know who to go to (and who to blame).
